OPEN - Dining hall camp out

Sep 12, 2009 22:06

[The Dining hall looks more or less the same as it always does, only it's obvious that the evacuation is well under way. Inmates and wardens are spread through the room, some preparing defenses, others being somewhat less proactive, but all of them are gathered around the room. All waiting for news of what's happening, and how they're expected to ( Read more... )

[By the time she reaches the dining hall, Toshiko doesn't think she's ever been so happy to see other human beings. Her blood is roaring in her ears, her heartbeat thudding violently, and the effect of the sonic modulator has left behind a fierce migraine like a drill between her eyes. Her nose is still bleeding, which is...worrisome, frankly.

Aleera had been assimilated. After the rush of the confrontation, this small painful fact comes back to the forefront with a vengeance. Her Inmate had been assimilated; she's failed as a Warden, at protecting her Inmate, at doing her job. Again.

Finding a quiet corner, she folds to her knees, leaning heavily against the wall. Just a few moments alone to catch her breath and then she can get up, check on the status of her assigned level, keep working.]

Once they reached the dining hall, Sirrus instantly scanned the room, thinking that he would at least catch sight of Dean. Nothing. Not a hint. Discouraged but not worried- there was plenty of time to be upset and panic- he looked to the woman who had led them this far.

Oh, she did not look well. He frowned slightly as he picked his way around a few other people and made his way over.

"If I am interrupting your moment of...breaking down, please forgive me." His voice did not beg forgiveness. "But you do need to find a doctor before you bleed...out." Of course, he was exaggerating, but she had not stopped bleeding since she had returned to the stairwell.

She looked at him blearily for a moment, then shook her head. Martha would be in the (a?) TARDIS, she was guessing, and Dr. McCoy wasn't anywhere nearby which suggested he was engaged elsewhere.

"It's just a nosebleed. It'll stop soon." The only support she had for this argument was that the flow had slowed to a trickle; it had to stop eventually. "I'm sorry I had to leave you and Ethan. Did you make it here all right?"

"I know nothing of Ethan. I can only assume as much. I split from him at the stairs and made my own way here. I did see a few...of them, but I found that if you pose no threat to them, they leave you alone. For the most part." He did run into one who caught onto his "walk submissively through the hallways" routine, but he wasn't about to tell that story.

"What now?" he asked her. He didn't like feeling useless...and he felt that if he even so much as stopped moving for a moment, he would fall asleep. Even then, he was drumming his fingers against his thigh.

Martha had escorted Swing inside, and then looked at her PDA again. Still nothing. She took a deep breath and put her hands on her back before she looked around for anyone who was hurt and who could have needed her. God, they all looked like the walking wounded. A woman was staring, and other people looked to be in a state of shock. Keep them warm she thought quickly. Hell, had they remembered to bring blankets? She should have thought of blankets. Too late now. If she heard from someone else, she would mention blankets.

Another look around and she saw blood. The color was what she noticed before she saw who's it was. Oh Tosh. Quickly she moved to the medical kit and pulled out a pair of gloves and some gauze before heading over to Tosh and the man she was with. "Do you need me?" The question was soft, her voice subdued.

"The evacuation is still going on," Tosh said to Sirrus. It helped to have something to focus on, to stop her mind reeling too quickly when she felt like she could barely move. "Then we regroup, consider the resources we have and put together a plan."

She had a few ideas of her own, but she needed to talk to someone...maybe Chekov or Billy, although she'd noticed that Billy was more or less attached to West just then. Toshiko looked up as Martha approached and steadied herself, smiling tightly at the doctor. She'd been through worse than this.

"I'm fine, Martha - I was a bit trigger-happy with a sonic weapon, that's all. There'll be others who need you more."

Sirrus made a face at her plans. It all sounded much too loose. He didn't like it, but, once again, he had no say in the matter. So, thankfully, when the doctor came, he was effectively dismissed and wandered off, looking for anyone he knew, a familiar face to get him out of this rut.

"But right now there aren't any who need me more, so let's let me take a look at it, yeah?" Martha pulled the gloves on expertly and reached over with the gauze to touch Tosh's nose gingerly, attempting to discover if it was broken or not. It didn't appear to be by looking at it, but a look was never as good as a touch or as a x-ray.

Tosh frowned faintly, embarrassed by the attention and frankly happier with Sirrus' decision to wander off, but she knew she couldn't be annoyed with Martha for doing her job.

"The drones didn't touch me. I as good as did this to myself with a sonic modulator," she admitted.

"Did it work?" The question was asked quickly as Martha leaned over and carefully touched Tosh's nose. Her fingers traced gingerly along it, and then she spoke softly. "Head forward, please." The gauze was rolled, and she used it to touch just below her patient's nostril's with one hand, and with the other she carefully pinched the bridge of Tosh's nose, applying pressure for the bleeding to stop.

"Any bleeding from your ears?"

"No, just a bit of ringing," Tosh said, doing as as she was told. "It stunned her for long enough to get a few people to safety. I didn't want to keep at it for long enough to see if it would actually kill her."

"Yeah, it wouldn't have done any good to have killed you even if it did take her out." Her hand was held there and Martha looked at the assortment of people who kept trickling in. A part of her wanted to ask who it was who had done this, but really it was better not to know. This philosophy was something she had perfected in that lost year, move on, remember and mourn later. They would fix this in the end. They had to fix this in the end."

"I know." She felt the bleed stop, at last, and the panicked flutter in her heartbeat began to fade.

"Those of us who have experience with this sort of thing need to discuss our next move. Do you have any idea what the Doctors are doing?" It seemed redundant to ask where they were; she was pretty sure she already knew that much.
