Sam has no idea how long he's been out by the time he stirs. It's like... it feels like he's just woken up from a coma, but God, his head is killing him and everything's dark, even after he opens his eyes. He wants to move his hands, but he just feels like he's been crushed under the weight of a boulder, and he can't do anything to move, oh God oh God oh God he can't even scream.

How long is it now?

His vision returns slowly, and at first he sees nothing but bright, harsh lights, until everything clears up and he realises he's on his back, in his room, the dim bulbs in his room hardly blinding him now. Blearily, he moves his fingers, first, then manages a tic of the arm. What's that smell?

Blood. And it's practically overpowering. He wants to cover his nose to mask out the smell, but he can't, and he gags a little, makes a choking sound when he tries to call for help.

His head is throbbing, it hurts so much he wants to just crack his skull open and let all the pain out, but he can't.

Finally, he groans, then after a time, manages to move his arm enough to tug at his shirt, which is just... caked in blood. He turns his head to one side and realises he's been laying in it. With another groan, he turns his head to the other and...

Oh God.

Prefect.

And his face-- his face was just--

Sam gulps, closes his eyes, brings his hands to his head and bites back a scream of frustration. It takes every bit of willpower he has left to roll over onto his stomach, and he tries to get up, but he can't, and his body is just screaming in agony now, his head feeling like it's about to explode.

He rests his head on his arm, opens his eyes, and looks at his deceased Inmate.

"Bring him back," he says, softly, then looks up at the ceiling, to address the Admiral. "Bring him back, you sodding BASTARD!" He actually has the energy to shout this time, loud as he can, in hopes to make it work. Lowering his head again, he lets out a muffled sob into his arm. "Please..."

How many times does he have to fail his Inmate?
