Penny had been reading on her bed when Jensen knocked, and it took her a minute to untangle herself from her blanket and set Milo aside so she could answer the door. Once it was open, she grinned widely at Jensen and gave him a little wave. "Hi!" she said, using her foot to block the path of the kitten that was attempting to escape. "How're you?"
"Hey! A kitty!" Jensen crouched down to scratch the little orange fuzzball behind an ear and looked up at Penny with a smile. "I'm good. You know how some people just say they're good even when they're not because asking how are you is more a polite societal convention than it is an inquiry into a person's state of being? Well, I'm not. I really am good." The smile widened, impossibly bright. "Great, actually. How're you?"
Glancing down at the kitten, Jensen gestured with the hand not busy petting it and asked, "And who's your friend? Does Neville know you're sharing your room with this little charmer?"
Penny grinned back, kneeling down to pet the kitten as well. "That's great! I'm doing really good as well. Oh, and this is Milo, I found him a little while ago." She scooped him up and cuddled him to her chest. "Fortunately, Neville isn't the jealous type." Then, holding him out slightly, she added, "Would you like to hold him?"
Jensen's grin widened, "Sure!" He took the kitten from Penny and cuddled the tiny orange ball of fluff and fur against his chest. Milo snuggled in, looking even smaller now in his arms, and Jensen could practically feel his heart turning into mush over it. He'd never been a cat kind of guy, but, c'mon, who didn't like kittens? They were just so damn cute! "Hey, Milo. What's up, little buddy?" Milo rubbed his chin against his cheek, purring happily.
Scratching the kitten behind the ears, Jensen looked over at Penny, "Are you busy? I was wondering if I could borrow you for a little bit." He grinned. "I promise I'll return you in the exact condition I found you in."
