I just finished watching "Majo no Jouken" a.k.a Forbidden Love and it was like 'wow, what an unpractical and dramatic story.'
I first decided to watch it because
nihongofrancais mentioned that "Koishite Akuma" was similar to it in some ways. I thought it'd be cool to check it out, plus Tackey's in it:P
Come to find out that it's from 1999 (and I usually don't do dramas before 2000-don't ask me why), but there were many people we could recognize today who have definitely progressed in their careers, not to mention the story was fast pace.
I adore and envy Utada Hikaru's voice and was delightfully surprised to hear "First Love" as the show's theme song:)
I now finally understand the allusion made in "Stand Up!" to this show. That library kissing scene, lol! :)
But DAMN, it’s 1999 and they have a hotter kiss than now...what is up with that? :P
What happens is that Hirose-sensei gets a new transfer student, Hikaru, and falls in love with him. There are MAJOR issues along the way, and basically, the title describes a relationship filled with judgmental people and society, a witch trial.
I can understand the controversial issue behind this, even today, it happens, but to follow this story specifically, I'd have to say that I would have supported their relationship.
It's only because I could tell no ulterior motives behind both characters that I can trust in their relationship versus what we hear on the news. But whatever, that's not the point, lol.
Overall, it was alright. Glad to see Tackey in his younger days and glad to see lovey dovey moments. Glad to see that hardass genius doctor from "Godhand Teru" as someone caring. He's actually quite handsome, but of course, he's also aged well :)
Enjoyed the renaissance references that kept them connected, as well as the rings.
Anyways, the teacher's actions seem very illogical, impractical, and yet, I sympathize with it at times:/
If she would have just waited until he turned 18, things wouldn't have turned out the way it did, not to mention, there would be no drama:P
What really pissed me off was that she says she loves him in the third episode, in front of the whole assembly of students and teachers. I know we can't tell the measure of time in these dramas sometimes, but WHOA, you have not even thought about this properly!
I feel like she runs off with him a million times, and even though she thinks about how they'll live, where, what they'll do etc, she doesn't realize that Hikaru's mom will eventually tell the police about it.
Hirose's relationship with supporting characters is very loosely established, I feel.
We get the gist of it, like she's close with Kiriko, but we don't know how close.
Hirose's mom is supportive of her, but the dad is the 'obey me or get out' type, yet in the end we find out he's not such a hardass?
I don't know, the character development (or lack thereof) bugged me. Perhaps it was there and I just didn't like the execution.
And then Hikuru's mom is a total bitch. And yes, I understand you love your son and want him to take over the hospital when he's older, having his 'best interest and future' in mind, but I almost feel like you love your son in a very different way. The jealousy that she exhibits is way beyond that of a mother losing her child to another women.
But aside from that, it was decent, lol:)
I think my favorite part was when they reached Hikaru's uncle's house, because that was when I felt they could make something of themselves there. Hirose could be a teacher to the orphans there, and Hikaru could get to know his dad through his uncle. It seemed like a good 'hiding and resting' place for them, if not ruined by 'fate' and Hikaru's obsessive mom.
I mean, as a mom, I'd be worried sick to know where my child was too, so I understand that, but the way she went about it, it was more about preventing the relationship from going further.
I remember this conversation clearly:
“The person that I love just happens to be 17 years old. Does that make me a criminal?”
“Society sees it that way, yes.”
*sigh* I can see both sides, but for this drama, I support the protagonist, lol:)
Because of this drama, I went on a Tackey & Tsubasa spur :D
And just for fun:)
