Sunshine review!

Sunshine! What more can I say? The ironically dark tale about the sun dying:)
If you have not seen the movie and do not wish to be spoiled, I warn thee now.
Gosh, you really just have to see it. And I made this review mainly for venting purposes and there are too many spoilers in this that might turn you away...so if you haven't seen it, GO NOW.
Last warning: SPOILERS AHEAD! (and lots of ranting that might not make sense).
ok.

OMG, IS IT THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING YOU WILL EVER SEE ABOUT THE APOCOLYPSE AND HUMANITY?
YES.
WILL THIS SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU??
YES.
Will this make you love Cillian Murphy more than his gorgeous, expressive, blue eyes???
YES.

LOL. Yes, well, ! There is so much beauty and poetry within this science fiction thriller. And yes, there is actual, explanable, plausible science in this fiction, but it's also not overbearing. You definitely won't get bored.

If I were to choose a paper on which to write an analysis of film, this would be the perfect movie. The direction is beautiful, the special effects and stunts are amazing, and the message is brilliant.

Not to mention, come on, if you know the story of Icarus...that is the perfect name of the ship. When I heard it, I immediately thought of Farscape;p J/K. For those of you who don't know, Icarus, wrought of Daedelus, had wax wings which melted when he flew too close to the sun, and therefore crashed into the sea below. Icarus wanted to fly higher, towards the heavens, and that was the consequence. There's actually more to this, but this is what's pertinent.

The poetic part about this is that the ship, Icarus, does go into the sun, and 'melt.' But the whole thing about 'flying towards heaven' is just too perfect for when the 'creature' (as I will call the captain of Icarus1) talks about conversing with God and seeing that we are not the ones to decide if humanity should follow through. And then the special effects of the sun is just beyond imagination.

Now, the characters were effing amazing as well. Great cast/ensemble; you didn't really care who was more popular or had more star power, you just watched them in relation to the others. And you didn't notice that they were acting either, you really believe this happens.
MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!
Kenada- Brave captain. His performance and sacrifice, though early, was for me enough to know that he knew his death to come. He was very straight-forward, wise, and someone who I would like to lead this kind of mission. Level-headed, that's the word I'm looking for.

Dr. Searle-Psychologist/Physician- I have a personal admiration and awe towards him, because he was the first person we see really acknowledge the power of the sun, and that compared to what everyone else saw, he recognized the void of difference in darkness and light. He explains it in the first scenes, which I cannot remember, but it made me like him. He just stood there, admiring the endeavor, which really deserved that kind of awe.

Capa- I kind of liked how, even as the main character, he wasn't introduced immediately. I liked how he kept quiet, yet his presence was always known. I don't know, maybe it was Cillian's amazingness, or maybe it was perhaps I knew he would play a huge part in it, I really liked his calmness. Yeah, there were parts where he wasn't calm, but I felt he had a calming effect on me;p

Cassie- O. so cute! Soft-spoken and emotional, so very lovely part of the crew. I loved that she was always the humanity and conscience within the group. Even though Searle was supposed to offer the role of defining human questions and asking the moral issues, but Cassie really lived it. I expected her to have an intimate relationship with Capa, but I guess 'loose lips sink ships.' Also, Capa and Cassie share a bond as it is, which is much more important than any category of relationship they have.

Corazon- Ahhhh!! Michelle Yeoh!!! I love her character name...She is so elegant, and they gave her the most amazing role! Botanist, suited her quite well, as she seems one with nature and stuff. The Oxygen Garden is gorgeous! I freaking love her love for nature. I liked her a lot as well, because I myself love nature and caring for it. I almost cried because of her, when she found a seedling in the rubble...Man, when that was blown apart....GOSH. And the most poetic/sadistic part was how the creature positioned her in the lotus position holding the seedling.....argh.
Also, it's strange someone who would seem so peaceful and one with nature, was the one who brought up the solution of lack of oxygen....like...wow. So, there's a hidden dark side, but it's logical....so many layers to her:)

Harvey- So, originally, he seemed cool. No big deal, second in command, put his two cents in. Up until he becomes selfish! Dude, when he was like 'get out of that suit; it's a direct order!' I'm like....'you know he's the only one who can operate the core, and you wanna risk his life for your own measley uselessness!' I didn't care if he's captain, they all have leadership capabilities! Then there's the whole theme running through about one sacrifice for the better of the whole...yeah....:) Also, when he flew out there in the middle of space, I half expected him to become the space monster, but then he broke half his arm and the frozen blood molecules floated around convinced me other wise. Not to mention being vaporized instanteously by the sun, hehe.

Troy- Aw...I feel so bad for him! O God, there is a lot of pressure, all those calculations...I would surely have killed myself in his situation... I was sad he got killed off so early, but it was kind of nice that they had the Earth room, where he could've died in relative peace from familiarity.

Mace- My friend pointed out that it was ironic that The Human Torch was frozen to death...man...that was horrible. I was so terrified that the creature was gonna slash him while he was fixing the coolants, but damn, his death was just horrible. I found it somewhat humorous that he blamed Capa for everything. He blamed him for not being able to send a message home, which I felt SO bad...plus according to his background...he needed to absolve himeslf and to make sure he was making a life worth living, that who he had hurt knew he was trying his hardest for them. Damn, that sucks. Again, the Earth room....he liked the waves...aw...cute! I liked that he didn't shave for a bit;p Also, he blamed Capa for others death...but then again...perhaps another psychological component as to why Mace never took responsibility. Yet ironic that he would give him that one line about taking responsibility...complicated, he is:) O, and funny...he can't seem to apologize. He and Capa have an interesting relationship as well, because they seem to be the youngest of the crew. Yeah, they fight, and Capa knows automatically that Mace means to say sorry, but won't for the sake of it, tehhe.

Well, there's so much going on in my head...so much stuff to brag. I'd have to watch each and every part and analyze it, because it's just so great...EVERYTHING TIES TOGETHER! I love continuity, and it was seemless! Just Beautiful!!!!

It was a real human tale. Nothing over the top. I liked how they showed what people under this circumstance, as we can imagine, would act. They didn't sugarcoat things or possibilities, but left enough for the imagination, and they weren't afraid to say 'fuck' or 'shit.' :) I loved when they had to decide what to do about the distress signal, they turned to the astrophysicist, Capa, and the close up of his face, 'shit.'

And the whole idea of dying in the middle of nowhere is frightening. Indeed it is apart of human nature, which just thickens the layers of this movie. Humanity: is it worth defending? What makes us human? Obviously, this movie showcased the necessities in life: oxygen, food, light. It also shows us what happens to people under duress. But the fact is, we're all bound to die...I guess the issue is that if it's going to happen according to your own rules...Can you control how you're gonna go? That is the undertone beneath the suicide. He took responsibility. Of course, there were other factors, but Troy could control his end, and that was a subtle message. And of course, fear of the unknown, one sacrifice over another, one versus all, and fighting for what you believe in..
GO SEE IT! (again) <3333
