A Vampire Diaries Season 3 Finale Reaction Post
Disclaimer: Spoilers, and please don't mind if I don't make sense at times, or the run-on sentences xD Thoughts are mostly chronologically-tied to the episode.

For a finale, I enjoyed that we got to flashback and see some past characters like Jenna. I know seeing the deceased may not always be novel due to Jeremy's powers, but I've missed her :)

Throughout the season, it was interesting to see Elena go back and forth between Stefan and Damon, (though sometimes tiring) and I thought it was nice that she finally admitted that she cared for both of them. I enjoyed how they paralleled her flashbacks with her present self, both going through the decision-making process of being with the ‘right’ person.

I think it’s also interesting to see what kind of relationship the Salvatore brothers have with Elena; Stefan wants her to have her free will and while wanting to protect her, allow her to be an independent person. Damon, on the other hand, is all about keeping her alive, because at the end of the day, she can’t exact free will unless she’s alive ;) And Damon even mentioned this point with more perfect foreshadowing, because that’s what Stefan does -she lets Elena decide who he saves first and thus sealing her fate at the end. Stefan also said, “There’s nothing wrong with free will…trust me, you don’t realize that until you lose it,” foreshadowing Elena’s lack of free will in her turning, but I think he was more referring to himself and Klaus’ compulsion than anything else. And yet another foreshadowing moment with Damon and whether to trust Elijah or not. "Not! Hello, did that concussion give you brain damage?!" Uh...yes, yes it did xD

I’m somewhat sad that Alaric is dead, but I like that he may still guest star due to Jeremy’s ability. Kinda knew this had to happen since Matt Davis is piloting another series that got picked up by the CW. He is such a hilarious human being. I'm following his Tumblr (and Twitter) and he's got some thought-provoking stuff on there. Some of it is his own fanfiction of the VD characters (XD *shakes head*) and some of it is stuff that I have no idea what he's talking about >.> He's a cool dude.

Ya know, I don't talk about Bonnie's character all that much, but I respect her way of carrying herself and how she’s endured all that’s happened. Can’t deny she’s a powerful witch :D

Caroline has grown so much since S1; so happy with her character development. She's so strong and a voice of reason for Elena. Oh! And Klaus is now in Tyler’s body so lots of hijinks will be had involving him and Caroline. Please don’t let Bonnie be a party-pooper and warn Caroline before Klaus has had a chance to mess with Caroline a bit *snickers*
This pairing is SO good (and unlikely since he goes against everything she stands for. What else is new?) ^^

So the first half is present and the other bit is a flashback. We find out that while Elena was leaving that bonfire fateful nights ago, Damon was indeed the person who met her first, describing the sort of love that we know she wants now. Even though the last scene was pretty much a game changer in terms of hinting at who she may be meant with, especially because her decisions are tied so deeply to her emotions (Damon being that passionate, all-consuming, love that she wants and needs, thus the obvious choice given the scene), I think the end of the show will have both brothers and Elena going their separate ways for a while. Kind of like what Klaus offered Caroline; if there’s no immediate threat/baddie around and they finally have a chance to live a vampire life, to explore the world with all the time they have, let the current century’s happenings just fade away, I think Elena might have a chance to having a good relationship with one of them.

Julie Plec has also said that, even though there’s a love story between Elena and the brothers, the true love story is the one that the brothers have for each other, so we pretty much know she’s not gonna break them apart for the end game. Also, Elena has said that if she chooses one, she’ll lose the other and she can’t lose anyone else. Even though she decided Stefan right now, she wasn’t really losing Damon, she was letting him go because she cared and didn’t want to string him along anymore.

That was beautiful. Just hauntingly gorgeous ♥

And now that Elena is a vampire, I also wonder if the new doppelganger will be born and if it has to be connected to the Petrova line. I’m not quite sure how that works and don’t remember if they explained it, but they’ve pretty much ended that possibility with Elena unless Jeremy has kids…xD

As I’m reading more about the novels from which this show is based, I’m beginning to wonder whose blood it was Meredith gave to Elena. I know there’s a sire bond between Klaus and his hybrids, but what about to regular vamps? I mean, I guess there is a certain level of loyalty in creation? Though, I doubt that will happen since she was not sired willingly and I don’t think we’ve seen evidence of it between the brothers and Katherine.

And there’s been questions of who the next big baddie is if Klaus is dead or rendered temporarily inactive as a baddie (I think getting his body back and working will take up 1-3 eps, and the gang could try and figure out how to stop that from happening, though it really wouldn’t matter ‘cause they don’t wanna kill Klaus xD).
Perhaps Bonnie’s dark magic/un-approved by the spirits magic will cause some imbalance and release some curse or something over the town and they have to fix it.

So, the upcoming season opening will be interesting. I'm excited to explore Elena's struggle with being a vampire (and not having a choice in the matter) and now remembering the moment when Damon said he loved her. Julie stated that Elena/Stefan would be together for a good while, but it doesn't mean there won't be sexual tension between her and Damon ;)

So to end, A+++ acting for everyone and I can't wait for Season 4!
