"The Lost City" DVD Commentary!

May 31, 2007 00:40

"The Lost City" (part 1 and 2, which was meant to be seen as one episode anyway) is not only an amazing episode, but also has an amazing commentary behind it:)
I can't go into detail, like write word for word the entire commentary (which, someday, I'd like to do for all eps, cuz I'm crazy), but there are a few things I'd like to share with everyone, just because it made me happy:)

1. The DVD might say that the commentary is only by Martin Wood, but Amanda Tapping and Robert Cooper are also there. And the first thing Martin says is that if you pause in the first few frames of the episode, when Jack/Rick is doing the crossword, and if you have a super DVD player, you can zoom in and notice the words on the crossword are meant to be Stargate related words.
I did zoom in, but it was blurry. I got random words, or at least I thought were words, "Rathers, large, wrath, I can't remember, and "Fat," which actually is mentioned in the episode.
"13 across is the atomic weight for Boron. It's "ten." You wrote "fat."

1.5 O, and I believe Robert Cooper said that Ancient was a bastardization of Latin;p

2. And then, we discover that the actual Air Force Chief of Staff is in it. He's actually the new one after General Ryan first appeared a few years ago. Supposedly, one of the first things the new General asked was when he was going to be appear in Stargate;p

3. The oval office set used in this episode was actually the same one the X-Men used in their movie. Used, I think, after they were done shooting the movie.

4. Apparently, this entire episode was suppose to be the basis of the Stargate: Movie 2, as in when they were cancelled. But since they got to S7, being renewed for S8, they decided to use it as a finale to cliffhang and introduce us to Stargate: Atlantis.

5. In the scene in Jack's home, Richard flicks the beer bottle cap and it, supposedly, hit Martin Wood, who directed the episode.

6. Robert Cooper wonders when Teal'c became "fetishish" for doughnuts.

7. Amanda Tapping loves The Simpsons too! She found it interesting that Sam Carter has no clue about Jack's references to The Simpsons, when in real life, she understands completely.

8. The part where the super soldiers convene with the jaffa at night is supposed to symbolize the old meeting new. And when the super soldiers shoot the jaffa, it symbolizes the changing of power. The new soldiers are now removing the old jaffa.

9. Robert Cooper, who writes most episodes, said that in S6 they wanted to start killing off allies to just have an immense battle between only the humans and the Goa'uld when all ended. This didn't happen of course, but Amanda joked, "Well, let me date them."
"Yeah, just send in Carter." Martin added.
It's true if you think about it. Jonas, Narim, Joe Faxon, Orlin...should I continue...gosh..at least the Asguard aren't human...hehe.

10. O, and as we embark into the world of the Ancient outposts, the difference in color is mentioned, from heat to ice. There was also a mention of how someone was particular good at detecting temperatures...I don't know.

11. And we cannot forgot the immense praise of the entire cast and crew. Lots of talk about how it was a great goodbye. Lots of joking about the blocking/placement of characters and what it means. THERE IS NO MEANING; it's just easier to place Sam in front of Daniel, in front of Teal'c, because otherwise, you won't see anyone. Chris is really tall:)

YOU JUST HAVE TO WATCH THE COMMENTARY BEHIND THE EPISODE, after you watch the episode as a refresher of course;p
