AKB48
Lately, I've become really curious as to how AKB48 operates as a girl group with so many members. Like Morning Musume (and I suppose HP in general), there are different generations and trainees (research students). What I found super interesting was the selection of the girls for the PVs. They have Senbatsu Elections where fans obtain tickets to vote for their favorite member from the Single released before the elections. This is smart, because fans (who are not already a part of the fanclub) will definitely want that ticket to vote whether they like that song or not XD
This forum made the whole process really easy to understand :)
- Senbatsu members who will appear in 17th single PV will be the TOP 21. Those selected in TOP22~40 will be Undergirls, getting the couple/side-b song of the 17th single. Last year, the TOP 12 were the ones doing the PR and appearing in TV Shows. 108 members (wtf!!) to vote : AKB48's Team A, K, B and Kenkyuusei (total 63) +
SKE48's Team S, KII and Kenkyuusei (total 45).
The results for 2010.
You can actually find the videos of this on YouTube and it's crazy emotional for these girls. You would think, after all this time in the lime light, someone like Maeda for example, would be confident to reach the Top list, but I guess she's smart and knows the fickle nature of the beast...
Not being in-the-know about these things, I hadn't even noticed the change in positions between Maeda and Oshima, though the change is very noticeable between these two singles. (Yes, both are very sexualized and kicks the 'moe' factor into high gear, but you can't deny that these girls are pretty and know how to be cute ;)).
Honestly, I do think that Maeda will forever be the face of AKB48. Her appearance in Q10 will definitely boost her image, though Oshima is also appearing in the drama, Reinouryokusha Odagiri Kyoko no Uso.
In any case, I haven't gotten to the point of interest to memorize all of the main girls' names, but I can recognize a few, lol.
This whole election thing also makes me wonder how much of the time this ranking is on their minds. If your whole year builds up to this point, everything you do is being watched by fans and one thing to offend them and you won't get the vote (but, all celebrities have to uphold an image one way or another -AKB rankings just make it more visible). It could be potentially awkward to stand next to the person you've just pushed past in ranking. However! Since they worked hard and trained together, I don't think this awkward situation would last for too long. Just gotta do what you gotta do. Again, the nature of the beast.
I predict Maeda will regain her position come next election, but we'll see. Not that I mind, I adore both girls :)
I shall end with this: doesn't get any more kickass than breaking out of jail XD
