Really?
So in Lost Eidilons, I play a noble from Volskagrad; a country that is fake Russia, essentially.
So I was told this by one of my friends from Monster Camp:
"At LE, one of the NPC's was like "That Volskagradian noble... I feel like her white person impression is so much more racist with the Volska accent"
Now I may not be the most politically correct person on the planet and will whip out off color jokes for the love of irony and social commentary...but this is a level of stupid that hits every wrong button I have in my body... and I am filled with a rage of annoyance- people on the internet can be wrong, and I shall leave it be more for the most part... but not in my backyard.
This makes me a rage filled bunny for these reasons:
1) White person impression? Is the implication that any character that I play from a country that has a PC base of mostly European descended folks (which is many if not all of them mind you) is me doing a "white person impression?" Are you implying that I am doing a white person impression every day of my life because I am from rural-suburban Connecticut and speak American English with the same tones as the next person from town? Or because most LARP circles I have been to have been primarily white, am I doing a white person impression just by being geeky?
2) My accent is less cheesy that the other Volska PCs. In fact, because I am bilingual l, I have an easier time mimicking speech patterns.
3) Most of Russia is IN Asia- The third biggest city they have is in the Asian part of Russia. You will find people with similar features contributed to Eastern Asia if you bothered to look.
4) LARPing- suspend your flippin' disbelief. This is the same in fact, as the PCs who are white that have characters that are from FAKE EASTERN ASIA. Or would you be less offended if I had my character be based off of there?
5) THERE ARE ASIAN DESCENDED PEOPLE ON ALL OF THE CONTINENTS. Is the guy from Scotland who has Asian ancestry also doing a white person impression when he speaks?
6) You're a bag of douche, you uneducated moron.
Tasteless and funny is still funny, tasteless and stupid is still stupid.
Thank you for reminding me that I am somehow different, when in the world I wish to live in has no real regards to that, as well all have different backgrounds.
