My coworker, Jess, had an accidental needle stick today when we were checking the blood sugar of a patient. We were using his equipment and the needle wasn't self retracting, unlike the ones that we normally use. I was going to get one when Jess figured out how to use his.
The patient's Spanglish made it hard for him to understand what we meant by "hepatits" when we were asking what was the cause of his cirrhosis.
I am a mix of frustrated, cranky, and anxious. Intellectually, I'm sure Jess will be fine, but until we get confirmed results, I am pissed at myself for not following through and getting one of
our lancets before Jess decided to use the patient's needle.
