AvCon costumes

Jul 08, 2009 12:48

I've been having trouble coming up with appropriate costumes for AvCon in a few weeks. My choices are somewhat limited, firstly due to it being an Anime and Video Game convention, and secondly, due to it being the middle of winter and thus, freezing ( Read more... )

I posted a sketch of my concept, let me know what you think! I'm pretty excited about it actually! I do love Steampunk, but before now, I never really had a character as such, so I didn't really know what to design. It's much easier designing for a character :D I really tried to keep the look of Alice, with the blue and white, and the dress and pinafore, but still adding steamy elements! I'm pretty happy! :D

Heheh he is AWESOME! I asked if he would buy me the expensive ones, but he declined :P At least I got the other ones :D

I think the only anime series I've ever watched all the way through was Fruits Basket. And I am pretty much entirely video game illiterate. Haha.
The costumes sound like fun, though! =]

I really want to get Sailor Moon, because I always loved it! I've got Vampire Princess Monoke, but I jsut haven't watched it yet. And I've seen Blood: The last Vampire, and Vampire Hunter D.... hmmm sensing a theme here ;) But other than that, there's not much else I've seen. As for games, the only ones I play are Hellgate (which I'm planning to make maybe next year) and anything from the Lego franchise :D They're fun! But other than that, I'm not much of a gamer. I wouldn't mind making something from WoW or Guild Wars, but they're so complicated. I've never actually played BloodRayne (we tried, but it wouldn't work on my computer), but I just love the design of the costume, and she's a vampire! what's not to love!

When I was in Melbourne I came across these AMAZING steampunk boots... they looked like they were made from patches of different shades of brown and brown/gold stiched together, they were great! Unfortunately they were a bit too expensive when I knew I wouldn't really wear them often enough to justify it... but yes, they were incredible :)

Oooh they sound cool! I wanted to do something like that for a corset actually. You can get vintage jackets like that, and I was going to cut it up to make a corset. It's a cool idea! I can see myself wearing these boots for a few costumes. Steampunk and Victorian. But I still can't justify almost $200 on 1 pair of boots! I'll just keep an eye out on sales!

Hahaha yeah, that's what I keep telling myself! Hopefully people won't get too antsy about it not being strictly anime/video game. It's not like I'm entering the comps!

I can't wait to finish it! I started it a year ago, then got sick and wasn't able to go to the event, so I didn't do any more on it! My favourite part is the corset. At my old job, we had this AMAZING $90pm cotton velveteen. I only needed 50cm for the corset, and my manager gave it to me for $20 (and it was a generous 50cm!)! I was pretty happy with that! It's so soft, I just want to pat it constantly! I was thinking of using steel boning to try and get a tinier waist, but I don't think the boning will make much difference. I used the same pattern as I did for Silk Spectre and Wonder Woman, so I should get about 3 inches reduction :D Can't wait!

What are you wearing?
