I had a fantastic time on the weekend at Sydney Supanova, despite the late nights leading up to the con and the freezing cold. Sydney has a totally different feel to Brisbane. I don't know if it's because there were less people there from interstate, or just less people, but it was definitely a pretty cruisy weekend. I didn't feel rushed at all, I wasn't stressed about being late (I didn't arrive until 11 each day) and I just had lots of fun. The only things I HAD to do over the weekend were: The Disney photoshoot (which was heaps of fun and I can't wait to see!), judging the cosplay comp (which I totally enjoyed!) and then dinner with various people afterwards. Other than that, I was free to do what I wanted.
There wasn't much merch there, from my point of view; all I came away with from the weekend was a set of Teen Titans figures for $10 (reduced from $50). I splurged a bit on food, but not too much all things considered.
I didn't take very many photos, so I'm going to have to steal some from
sewaddicted and
darcrider!!
So Friday night I went in vintage gear: a 50's dress with 40's rolls.... *blush* I know I know, mixing years, but I only had 30 mins in the morning to do my hair, and I couldn't think of anything particularly 50's to do with it! I wore my outfit to work for the day, and the girls absolutely loved it! Though I've discovered my beautiful shoes definitely are NOT all day shoes! My feet are seriously still recovering! I had managed to find some seamed stockings, which I was happy about! Though they're now a little worse for wear as I had to take my shoes off and walk across the wet street in stockinged feet! Fortunately they're not vintage!! I wish I had a better shot of the hair, but it's done in 3 rolls with some flowers pinned into one of the back rolls. I was pretty happy with the outfit :D Oh and that's Matt in his FINALLY finished custom Mando armour. Though he's going to completely remake all the armour plates as they ended up too big for his modified vest.
Saturday I donned my Animated Giselle costume to join the big Disney group! It was heaps of fun and I can't wait to do it again next year! Hopefully in my Giselle Wedding dress! Alterations included taking the 'sleeves' in, putting boning on the bodice and finally sewing in the hook and eye. I still need to get proper shoes for this, so I ended up wearing black tights and black victorian boots (it's Winter here!). I kinda wished I'd not worn the tights as I would have liked to have had barefoot photos taken, but oh well, maybe in summer! I also need to do the flowers properly too. Though I hope to remake the entire dress sometime, when I find a better colour match for the fabric! What I don't have a picture of is the hot pink silk velvet capelet I made to go with the costume! I'm contemplating pulling it apart and redoing it, as it was terribly rushed, but it looked good and kept me warm enough during the day!
Sunday I was originally going to go in Victorian Steampunk (I even stayed up late to finish the petticoat!), but after many requests in Sat, I decided to don the starry pants and wear Wonder Woman again. I had heaps of fun wearing the costume, and whilst walking around with Superman, we could barely go a few metres without having to stop for photos! I got photographed by heaps of Journalists too, so lemme know if you see me in the paper! You all know how the costume looks but here are a selection of cool photos of me with people:
So Matt dressed up as Indy on Sunday, thanks to
darcrider, and he had lots of fun doing it! The Carlotta was FABULOUS! She walked past me and I audibly squealed mid sentence and ran after her DEMANDING a photo! She was stoked that someone knew who she was! Funnily enough, you'll all remember that I was contemplating Carlotta's pink movie outfit originally! She ended up winning Best Costume :D Absolutely amazing work! She had gone to see Phantom the night before in the costume, and ran into some of the cast afterwards at the train station, who demanded her photo! So cool! Now, the ass grabbing photos are a bit of an in joke that was carried over from Brisnova! It's a long story but it all started with
machv, and well, now has a life of its own! And now we have photos to prove the magnificence of my ass.... I'm waiting for the photos from Marco, as they're from a much better angle that doesn't include my beetroot face :P And of course, Superman :D
So that was the weekend. I ended up chatting with the Steampunk/BJD people and we're going to try and get some kind of Aussie Steampunk community off the ground! They were disappointed I didn't wear my Steam punk, but totally understanding of me melting to peer pressure :P We're hopefully going to organise a meetup soon :D yay!
