Changes a plenty!

Costume progress:

I got the lining cut out for the capelet, and now I have to cut out the velvet. It's not as wide as I thought so it's going to take more than I thought :( Sadly. Oh well! Will get that done today.

As for everything else...

I'm still tossing up between Victorian Steampunk and Rita Skeeter for the Sunday. Yesterday I was SURE I wanted to do Rita (I even bought a skirt and vest pattern from work for it) but today I'm not so sure. See I was starting to get sick of trying to make the damn thing work, but... well I do so love my Victorian. And today I found out that there will be a couple of Steampunkers there over the weekend. I was worried that people would just think I was some strange girl in a Victorian outfit, but now I'm thinking I might actually be recognised as steampunk. Sooo I'm contemplating fixing up the Victorian.

If I put it all into perspective, the Victorian should take less time than an entire outfit (skirt, vest, blouse and hat), provided I can make it work (and I have a few ideas from the SnB). It will look very pretty, and should be quite warm (though Rita would have been too).

My main issue is I just don't know what to do to it to steamify it! I posted over on Steamfashion, and most people said they just loved it the way it was. But I would like to add some bits to make a little more steamy. At the moment I think the only remotely steamy thing about it will be the top hat, though that's not particularly steamy. So does anyone have any ideas on how to steamify my outfit, without taking away from the integrity of the Victorian look (ie I'm not hiking the skirts up at the front).

If I decide to do the Victorian here's what needs doing:
- hem the bottom ruffle, pleat and sew to skirt
- Sew buttons back on bodice (can be done on train)
- Make overskirt and back bustle (I have a few ideas now that I think can work!)
- Make natural form Petticoat ordering patterns from Mandy with express post so should hopefully be here around Tuesday or Wednesday)
- Decorate Top hat (hopefully it will arrive in time!)
- Sew snaps on chemise (train job)
- Buy Parasol
- Make capelet? (The pattern I borrowed off sewaddicted doesn't look too difficult, so I was contemplating making one for my Victorian to help keep me warm. We have some velveteen at work that I think should match and I'd line it with the printed fabric)

hmm so not too much, as compared to Rita who needs an entire outfit. So really, I guess that in itself makes my decision easier.... Victorian it is....

I'll need to get a few supplies though. I may need some more polycotton as I might need to do some more ruffles. I'll have to go to Spotty for that (eeep not sure when I'll be able to get there with work though *sigh*). Also need to get some fabric for the petticoat; we sell voile cheaply enough at work, so I might see about using that. Hopefully we sell yellow! I need to buy the parasol and top hat, and just hope they reach me in time. I can buy netting from work, but I might need to visit Lincraft or Spotty to buy some flowers etc for decoration. And the velveteen from work if need be. hmmmm Can it be done? Only time will tell! But I have lunch breaks at work so I can scout the local shops if need be. Oh and Mon/Tues I'm working at Wynyard so I might be able to check out Lincraft in the city (I don't start til 10). I might JUST get this all done!

Good thing is that Giselle is almost done. Just need to finish the Capelet, make the flowers for the wig, and comb out the tangles. Oh and buy pink shoes! Friday night I'll be wearing my 50's Vogue dress. Valley girl had these cute cropped cardi's, so I'm going to go and buy a white one on Wednesday (provided they're still there) and wear that with the outfit (and prolly the capelet, knowing how cold it will be). I need to get stockings and I might make a hat, if I have time. Oh and if the Rita wig arrives in time, I'll wear that Friday night, and channel Marilyn :P

Anywho, so I'd best get off upstairs and cut out the rest of this caplet and then get to work on the Victorian!
