like fire on the water

Ahhh, weekends.

Saturday I did not touch my computer at all. I turned it off Friday night before I went to bed and did not turn it back on until Sunday morning. While it was odd to not be on LJ, I consider the day a complete success.

I got up around 11 and meandered downstairs for lunch, after which Melzer and I went to see Indiana Jones and ( Read more... )

You got your copy of Mercy already?

I managed to pre-order a personalised copy, but it hasn't arrived yet. :(

I ordered it yesterday with overnight shipping and Amazon says I'll have it today. My mom's copy arrived yesterday, but I had pre-ordered that for her.

So when I get home, it will be waiting for me, and I shall devour it with great delight.

If I frantically PM you begging to know how exactly the entire thing was resolved, please don't tell me.

I guessed fairly early on in Justice of Dorelei's fate, but for Mercy, I can only halfheartedly speculate. I really don't want Melisande to be executed.

:)

I knew Dorelei's fate because of the leaks in the reviews, but I have some specific guesses as to what might be afoot in Mercy, and I am most anxious to see it.

Ahhh. I'm not in the fandom, so I manage to stay spoiler-free.

I guessed Dorelei's fate the first time she talked about her dream of Imriel kneeling under a tree in the snow. I was sad of it, though. :(

What sort of guesses? All I know is that his search is going to lead him to Ch'in.

I'm not in the fandom, but I belong to a discussion comm, and they were talking about how angry she was at spoilers, and because I am curious like a cat I had to go and look.

I have avoided looking at ANYTHING for Mercy, so the fact that he's going to Ch'in is news to me! My best guess is thus: (highlight white text for spoilers)

I'm guessing Melisande assassinates Ysandre, causing Sidonie to ascend the throne. At some point I am assuming she formalizes things wtih Imriel in a fashion that may resemble marriage.

Maybe not, though.

Well, I'm assuming. Carey took a trip to China for the sake of research, but now examining the time when she went and how the book is already published, maybe not.

Eep! I hope not. That would make me sad.

What I found odd, though, was how Ysandre wouldn't disinherit Sidonie if she took Imriel as her consort... so why not just do that? Imriel doesn't want to be king in the first place. It was good enough for Phedre and Joscelin!

Imri doesn't want to be King, but he may have to be, for there are still those in Terre D'Ange who find a traitor's get more suitable for the throne than a Pictish half-breed.

I honestly never considered that.

The more I think on it, the more the maybe-spoiler makes sense, though. Alais did allude to Sidonie needing Imriel for support in the future, and I couldn't figure out for the life of me why.

Wait... hold on.

Didn't Melisande vow on Kushiel's name not to, you know, do that?

Maybe! I forget. It doesn't matter. I'll know later. XD

In Avatar, Melisande swore not to harm anyone of the Courcel line if Phedre raises Imri without bias. So if she were to go against that... I'd imagine Phedre would be feeling pretty badly.

You will indeed! *jealous*

I've not re-read Avatar within the past year or so. It's not one of my favourites. I prefer Dart and Chosen.

Oh, Avatar is my favourite. But my love of Imri is what had me keep going with the series.

Oh, I've got a bit of Pratchett I need to get started on. But as soon as Mercy arrives, I know I'll drop everything else.
