So the Chicago area got dumped with between six to twelve inches of snow yesterday. I woke up an hour earlier and left the house early to clean snow off my car. 4-wheel drive got me safely out of the driveway and from there I averaged about 20 mph on my way to work. I avoided the Edens because I wasn't sure what it would be like; side streets got me quite effectively up to Lake County, where everything broke down. I got to the major intersection where I would turn north to get to work, and suddenly visibility decreased to less than 50 feet. I'm inching along at about 10 mph, barely able to see the stoplights. This was exceptionally lame. So about 2 hours after I set out, I finally get into the parking lot at work, and park hella crookedly because I have no idea where the spaces are. I figure at this point the office must be closed. I mean, United and American had already cancelled all their flights into Chicago for the day. It was so bad that Lake County had invoked their law that they ahve for when they cannot plow the streets: people are forbidden to drive. But work was not closed.
So, amid a high call volume, I get through the day, but I did leave early because I hate driving in the dark in the snow and basically made an argument about fearing for my personal safety. Last night we were going to have a NaNoWriMo Thank God It's Over party, but people flaked out, so we played Guitar Hero instead. Around 10:30 I decided I was in a bitchy antisocial mood and went to bed. I slept late this morning and woke up, went to Sushi Arigato with
wrenbow, and then played Final Fantasy XII for the first time in two weeks. I'm back in Rabanastre, about to head to the Giza Plains in the rainy season, but first I'm doing a few sidequests.
The best thing about going out yesterday was the trees. It was a heavy, wet snow that stuck to everything, so the trees were coated in this lovely white frosting. It was beautiful; I had to keep reminding myself to watch the road and not the trees.
