That's all right, I'm okay, it ain't nothing but another day

Oh, today's been a day, all right.  Let me just start this by saying that winter is not my season for cars.  January 2004, my car's battery dies on a particularly nasty day, resulting in me having to walk about a mile in wind and snow, and catching a truly horrific cold.  January 2005, I got in a car accident.  And then there was today.

I woke up around the usual time this morning, dropped sabrielrose off at the L stop.  Merrily went along my way to work, got irked at the morning radio shows as usual, switched over to CD.  As I'm zipping down Dundee (Dundee and Landwehr for those of you who know the area) my car decides to sputter and not want to accelerate properly from a stoplight - can't even get it over 30.  Pull over, shift into Park, sit for a moment, cautiously go back into Drive, and it seems to run all right.

Going along, car is behaving, turn onto Milwaukee and head up to work.  Get caught by a red light, car doesn't want to accelerate at all.  It lumbers into the intersection and STOPS.  Fortunately for me this particular intersection is a T-intersection and people could easily get around me on the right, plus those turning left onto the road could get around me. But I'm stuck.  Put-in-Park trick does not work.  Cue sighs and frustration, especially as I need to pee and just don't have time for this today.  Call Triple A.  (This is at 7:45)  They tell me a tow truck will be there around 8:45.  Sigh.  A fucking hour in a car which I can't run so I have no heat, and it's 20 degrees outside.  Fucking beautiful.  Call work. Tell them I will be late, don't know how late.

A gentleman passing by apparently thought I was ill or injured and called 911.  A while later an ambulance stops and helps me get over to the side of the road.  I wait.  Two police cars stop at varying times to make sure I'm ok.  I wait.

9:15 rolls around, no tow truck.  Call Triple A.  It seems that the first company they contacted had called back and said "no we can't do this, please re-route the call."  They did not reroute the call.  So I've now been sitting in 20 degree weather with no heat for an hour and a half for nothing, and they can't get a truck to me before 10:15.  I had a minor breakdown and cried for a little while.  Then I sighed and went back to reading Bastions of the North cause fuck, it wasn't like I was going anywhere.

10:20, truck finally shows up.  I get hauled to a place.  They inform me that it is the fuel pump, which will cost around $650 (parts/labour) to replace.  I call my parents.  Fortunately my father is fucking awesome and gives me his credit card number.  I wait around for three hours, finish Bastions of the North, read the latest issue of PC Gamer (Dude, I WANT Neverwinter Nights 2) and wait.  Pay for car.  Collect car.  Put gas in car because it's now empty.  Come home.  At this point it is 2 o'clock and I have not been warm since I woke up this morning at 6:30.  Hop in a hot shower and whimper in pleasure at finally being WARM.

Spent the afternoon reading Castebook: Night (thank you mattchu!) and then went to Exalted, which was fucking amazing.

So we're headed north into the territory ruled by Our Lady of the Agonizing Rapture in search of Savant's journals so I can, you know, redeem myself.  Along the way, Jeremy is delivering some missives for the Cult of the Illuminated.  During a conversation with one of the spies he's delivering to, he basically blurts out nine-tenths of our fabulous recent events.  All of us are whimpering in pain at this and begging him to shut up (but of course our characters aren't there.)  herod_the_nut starts bitching about it too, and I looked around and went "OK, even the Lunar is bitching about the Zenith's lack of diplomacy.  Jeremy, buy a fucking clue!"  That got a good round of laughter.

So life goes on.  Jeremy tries to catch up with us, catches us unawares, and we attack him thinking he's a bone lion.  Some Cascades of Cutting Terror were flung.  The following lines were said:

Melzer:  The horses are a fine bloody mist.  Jeremy is naked but otherwise unaffected.
Me, playing my wonderful prostitute character:  I try to make him affected?

We get into the shadowland, announce our presence unintentionally but spectacularly, and have limited time to grab my journals and go.  We do.  Massive hordes of armies start pouring into the shadowland from the Underworld.  We run.  Our horses keep getting shot by the pursuers, led by Knight of the Woeful Countenance.  My horse goes down.  I throw the bag of journals to Jeremy and then herod_the_nut, in falcon-beastman form, grabs me and dumps me onto Domaquel (Dawn-Caste Marukani)'s saddle.

Melzer:  Meg, take a bashing from landing on the saddle horn.
Everyone else: owwww.
Me:  Ow!  Hey, that was kind of fun....

I love playing a masochistic whore.  Wait, is that really role-playing?

Anyway...We start flinging the bags of books about trying to keep them on horses that are alive.

Melzer:  Mounted Ultimate Saddlebag!
herod_the_nut:  Please, this is "Keepaway from the Deathknight."

As we're fleeing, sabrielrose turns to shoot Knight's horse.

herod_the_nut:  Who are you to look a gift horse in the mouth?
Jeremy:  Who are you to shoot a dead horse?

And the last great moment....my character, shouting at Knight in Old Realm:

Me:  I insult his ancestors' sexual tastes - goats, baboons, slime, and excrement*
herod_the_nut's Lunar, in the same language:  Don't insult the noble goats!

*Ten points if you know what I'm referencing.  Ten more if you catch the alteration from the original.

So yeah.  We're headed back to Sunflash the Mace's turf.  This can only end well.  By which I mean with me strapped to a table being tortured again, which is at least fun for me.

So today's been a day.  *deep breath* Apart from the minor breakdown into tears while waiting for the tow truck, though, I faced it with quite a bit of equanimity.  The fact that my parents kick all ass definitely helped.  And my dad might visit this weekend to bring me Taliesin, my new shiny!  Joyous glee!

Alright.  Reading and bed.

Hard times, bad luck
Sometimes life sucks
That's all right, I'm okay
It ain't nothing but another day
