It is too fucking cold to live, I tell you. The high today was in the single digits and we are currently under a -20 to -30F windchill warning for tomorrow. I am a fragile Southern flower, I cannot be doing with this nonsense.
(Fortunately, since I am a publicly-employed fragile Southern flower, I get to hide in the house until Tuesday.)
So far the holiday weekend has largely been kind to me. I did a ludicrous amount of laundry, which I'd not touched since before we went to Florida (so just about a full month) and I was running out of clean clothes. Now I am not. Correspondingly, our room is quite tidy right now! Hurrah.
I've watched a lot of football (I fussed a lot at the Packers, freaked out in the good way for the entire first half of the Panthers game and in the bad way for the entire second half and breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when Carolina recovered that onside kick, and I don't really care about the AFC side except that I'd be okay with either Denver or New England, which is convenient as that's who's going to the AFC championship.) I've also played a lot of FFX-2 and dumb phone games and Puzzle and Dragon: Super Mario Bros. Edition, at which I am apparently immensely less skilled than I am at its fremium equivalent.
It has also been a good weekend for food; we ordered from our favorite cheap Mexican place on Friday night, and then last night paladin made a savory caramelized shallot tarte tatin with a spinach/grape/apple salad. This morning he was kind enough to fix me Eggs Benedict (my favourite breakfast, om nom) and then I made German Onion Soup for dinner (much akin to French onion soup, only with caraway, mustard, and beer for flavorings instead of sherry and wine) with pretzel grilled cheese sandwiches on the side. So good. So good. I am full of delicious food and very contented with it.
And I still have a whole day of holiday weekend left!
My schedule over the next several weeks is such that I won't have a full week of work again until the end of February; this coming week is shortened due to MLK day tomorrow, and then next week I have Friday (and the following Monday) off for debauched bacchanal adventures with
seventhe, and then I get both the Friday and Monday of Valentine's weekend off due to Lincoln's Birthday and President's Day. (There are frustrations to being employed in the public sector, but there are also compensations.)
I'm hoping to spend tomorrow writing and playing video games, unless something goes awry. (The cats approve of this notion as it means I spend the day staying in one place, usually in such a physical arrangement as to be amenable to snuggling upon.) Nice, relaxing day.
