there is life outside??

I blinked and the week went by.

I survived going back to work (ha ha, how dramatic), but wow, it's absolutely ridiculous how little time work leaves me, which is something I know intellectually but don't really process until I've had free time to do what I wish. A few of my coworkers were astonished at the idea that I took a week off to do nothing but whatever struck my whim at the moment. "Didn't you get bored?" Of course not, there were an infinite number of books to be read and games to be played. I had naps. I saw friends. I cuddled the cats (well, Ganon, but not Zelda, who decided about four days into paladin's absence that I was an unworthy substitute and sulked in corners until he got home. Ganon, on the other hand, was thrilled out of his whiskers that his human was around so much.)

It turns out I'd done a fairly solid job of cleaning my desk before I left; my coworkers picked up most of what came in while I was out, and that was actually a little bit difficult for me because it meant the only tasks I had on deck were the tedious ones that I have supervisory blessing to put off until there aren't more urgent things. This week there was a distinct lack of urgent things. So I spent a lot of time sighing at robot work.

I think it's pretty telling that while I was on vacation I easily kept up with basic house maintenance (okay, I didn't do laundry or vacuuming, but the dishes stayed clean and I fed myself with home cooking a reasonable number of days and nothing got too messy because I'm slowly learning the habit of picking up after myself every couple days) and yet this week has pretty much been a study in "fuck that, don't wanna." Today was the first day I've cooked dinner all week. (In my defense I meant to do it Wednesday and it turned out the shrimp were freezer-burned so we ordered Mexican instead and yesterday I just had a hardcore case of "nope" so we ordered sushi. My innate laziness is aided and abetted by the fact that at last count GrubHub offered me 140 options for delivery, and that's not counting big chains that don't do GrubHub but are present in the area and will deliver.)

Paladin is back from his overseas trip, which has been nice, especially yesterday morning when I woke up in a panic and latched on like a lamprey after a really gross nightmare that involved people walking through our home for a realtor open house that started at 5 am and of which we weren't notified so we were still in bed in pajamas and there were strangers judging us and our house, and then said strangers let the cats out so I had to chase them (apparently we were in a condo in the dream so I was chasing the cats through some posh "common area" and being stared at and UGH) and then somehow I was on the L with a vacuum and while on the L got the mail delivered which included a letter from work that said some dispute or something had been resolved in my favor but also thanks but no thanks you're fired.

THAT WAS NOT REALLY HOW I WANTED TO START THURSDAY, I'M JUST SAYING.

In other news I've been reading the Prince Catchers series by Katharine Ashe and I can't put them down; I blew through one in its entirety Wednesday night (staying up late to do so) and got most of the way through the second last night before I almost fell asleep with it in my hands.

Oh, and this morning for the first time I completed all the Elites for an event in FFRK. :) and then got all the way through the normal side of the new Yuna event, so I'm feeling good about my abilities in that game, if nowhere else!

And now, I have declared Friday night our games night, and I'm gonna go get started on that.
