WHAT A SERIOUSLY FANTASTIC WEEKEND.
Friday at work was dead, like it tends to be on the day before a holiday weekend. I came home still kind of in a frustrated angry state because I had some really frustrating conversations regarding wedding preparations on Thursday. We ordered burgers for dinner from a place we hadn't tried before, which was an unqualified success, and then thanks to weather shift I had a hideous sinus headache and basically passed out at 9 pm for eleven hours, which meant I woke up way earlier than I'd meant to on Saturday. I wanted to sleep in, you see, because Saturday...
Saturday morning rolled around and
goldmare came to fetch me, and then we headed for parts south (i.e. Union Station) to retrieve a
seventhe as well as
moreinsanerer and
hyaenid. Off we went to a Korean spa that's not too far away, where we met up with
spreadnparanoia and
inyri. We loafed around doing spa stuff - I got a body scrub/massage/facial which was wonderful and I am still in awe of how soft my skin currently is - and then went off for dinner at Roka Akor, where a bunch of other people joined in the fun.
I had never been to Roka Akor before, but I am 100% going back. We did it family-style, which seems to be more or less the way it is intended to work. Everything I ate was amazing; some highlights included a roasted beet salad with almonds and a jalapeno miso dressing; seared scallops; brussels sprouts (yes really); sweet potatoes with ginger; soy-butter corn; grilled asparagus; steak something or other; and fried squid. Also there was sushi. And wine. And peach-hibiscus shochu. And since they had been told it was a bachelorette party, I got a little dessert thing of green tea creme brulée and it was SO DELICIOUS OMFG. So much laughter and chattering and hugs and good times with friends ahhhhhh schmoopy feels.
Thus fortified, we headed over to
spreadnparanoia's place, as she had graciously agreed to host us for the rest of the evening. We drank a lot more (I was fine until the shots happened;
seventhe and I are agreed that the shots were a really bad idea.) We played pass-the-porn in a hilariously entertainingly awful way and wound up with some really epic purple prose that amazes and delights me. There also was a stripper, who was very attractive and good at what he was doing, and we had fun with that as well. Then we collectively flopped around the living room and chatted about all kinds of things - meds, pets, life, jobs, future plans, whatever crossed our minds - and jeez. I am just so lucky to have such great friends, is all I'm saying.
seventhe and I came back here around 2:30 am and pretty much instantly passed out; I only managed to sleep about 5 hours (because wow but I am absolutely awful at sleeping when I drink, I am discovering). I got up feeling still dizzy-drunk and was okay for a while, but then threw up when I tried to drink tea faster than was wise and then again in the middle of delicious breakfast (fortunately without making any messes), so Sev and I pretty much sprawled on the couch trading off naptime and playing FFXII. Apparently I turned 30 and lost my immunity to hangovers, which sucks, but what can you do. it was worth it. We unfolded the couch bed and rolled around flopping and chatting and gaming and sewing/knitting, and it was completely wonderful.
We also planned out the next several months years of
moogle_university - I know we've slowed down a lot with XII, but once the wedding is over I at least will have more free time, and we're really excited about our plans for after we finish the FFs that we want to play (there are a couple of extended canon/compilation things that we will be skipping.) We spent a lot of today rolling around squeaking in joy about how much we love this project and how excited we are to be doing it together.
I had some cathartic rants and there were lots of hugs and much affection, and tl;dr I love my friends and I'm so grateful to have all of them. And I think I should make more efforts to organize group hangouts even when we don't have occasions, because this weekend was fantastic and I am so very, very glad I had it. Totally relaxing despite the hangover, and I had such a wonderful time. ♥
