Ugh we are back into -45 windchill territory next week. On the days I must be out and about to do things for the wedding that cannot be easily rescheduled. why do I live in Chicago? This is a question I am asking myself many, many, many times this winter. AUGH.
I am in that really distressing phase of winter where it's been here forever, it's never going to leave, and the fact that I can see the light sticking around just a little later every day feels like a cruel lie to trick me into thinking someday it'll be nice again. January is the hardest month for me in a lot of ways; it's the big letdown after the holidays. I have coping mechanisms for November and December, and after Imbolc I can see the light existing again so February I'm okay, but January just absolutely kills me. It's brutal.
In slightly more cheerful news, I dove headfirst into The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX on 3DS Virtual Console after I took a look at my preorder list for February and squawked in horror (Bravely Default: As the Fairy Flies, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, and Lightning Returns not to mention FFX/X-2 HD in March) and then looked at my backloggery and squeaked in horror again, so it was time to find something short to beat quickly. This also hits my 2014 goal of beating games I acquired prior to 2000 (my original copy of this game was an original GameBoy cartridge, whee!) I'm at the fifth dungeon and I'm doing remarkably well courtesy of a guide, since I remembered that I got eaten by the seventh-dungeon bug wayyyyyyy back when and am determined not to have that happen again.
I'm doing really badly at writing this month. I think it's related to the aforementioned "January is my own personal hell" problem. I'm trying to care about it and every time I do I just stick my head deeper into comfort books like re-reading romance novels. It's just so hard to do anything when it's dark and cold, except play video games, I guess.
And as a final note, the
give me topics post is still live! ask away :) If I get more answers than days in February, THAT'S AWESOME and I will write more posts.
