Brainstorming Post: Hardmode Fic 2011
So, 
hardmode is opening up for the 2011 round! Game fandom big bang, 10K minimum. Signups and writing period are April 3 to June 3, so you can take some time to work on the story and see if you can reasonably finish before you finalize your signup. I had a grand time doing it last year, and I'm planning on doing it this year.
Which brings me to the brainstorming.
I'd like to write a fairly epic P3(P) fic, post-game, and I'd love some nitpicking and feedback on the plot if you happen to be into that fandom. :)
Spoiler Warnings:
* All of Persona 3
* Minor spoilers for the Moon and Star S.Links of P3P (Shinji and Aki, respectively) and the effect the former can have on the October full moon event.
The inspiration for this fic is threefold:
1) I ship Shinji/FeMC like burning.
2) I also ship Aki/Mitsu/Shinji like burning.
3) Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven"
...no, seriously.
The title is "our shadows taller than our souls" and yes the play on words is completely intentional.
Assumptions:
*FeMC
*Maxed Moon S.Link (Shinji survives October, albeit in a coma)
*Maxed Star S.Link with romancing Akihiko
*Set five years after the events of the game; current plan has Akihiko, Mitsuru, and Shinjiro in a stable poly relationship.
*However, all three of them have some unresolved (varying degrees of romantic) feelings regarding FeMC.
So, the (very loose) plot sketch is as follows:
* start on Christmas Eve, the three of them
* They are going about their lives, but it's that two-month span during which Shinji starts having lots of nightmares about when he was in the coma while the rest of them fought Nyx without him.
* Early February, he thinks he sees Minako and starts brooding about it. Akihiko and Mitsuru notice, obviously. Eventually they ambush him and drag the truth out of him.
* Mitsuru leverages research power (yay being the head of Kirijo) to check on the seal on Nyx as best she can. Meanwhile, Shinji wakes up one night and it's the freaking Dark Hour again. Cue epic panic on all three of their parts and trying to get in touch with the rest of SEES.
* Aki comes home certain he, too, has seen Minako. Mitsuru attempts to not freak out publicly.
* They start having shared dreams during the Dark Hour, which SHOULDN'T BE BACK, about climbing a tower not unlike Tartarus.
* Somewhere in here, there are some things about confronting personal weaknesses, resulting in Shinjiro's Persona evolving**
* Find Minako, who looks and sounds and talks just like herself but no longer has a Persona of any kind and is confused in the Dark Hour.
* Profit! By which I mean kicking people.
**So uh, if anybody's got suggestions as to what his Persona should evolve to, I am ALL EARS. Or, uh, eyes, in the case of text.
Also, to clarify: in my head, what is holding Nyx back is the combined efforts of the multitude of personae within Minako, so she's...back, but a very crucial piece of her (the Wild Card) is missing because it's what's making the seal.
...s-so if this is totally unreasonable I would like to know now before I start making words. >.>;
