oh good God.

So I made myself get the hell off Twitter last night because I was being hyper and ridiculous, and having squealed infinitely about my novel with mithrigil, lindensphinx, and
who_shot_kr, I realized I was rapidly hitting the point of being an utter moron, and went to bed.

Today I woke up about 10, came downstairs, and started helping with the cooking. Then I went with
benjamindunbar to pick up
celeloriel and
adamjury from the Metro. We came back and I made homemade cranberry sauce, and then my mother fed us a ridiculous amount of food: a brined turkey, glazed ham, mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, lima beans, broccoli, rolls, stuffing, Jell-O mold, two kinds of cranberry sauce, and baked sweet potatoes. (If you ever, ever leave my mother's house hungry, it is your own damn fault.) And then four kinds of pie to choose from at dessert. With homemade whipped cream for the pumpkin pie. My God.

We sat around the table and talked forever; my godfather was there, and my cousin Krissy, and people from the old neighborhood, and it was just awesome. It was so wonderful to have my family--by blood and by choice--around me, and I am super grateful for them. After everyone was gone, we cleaned up, and watched some NCIS, and now I'm curled up on the couch talking to people, and enjoying the fireplace and the quiet.

My list of things to be grateful for is so huge, and I am so blessed for it, but a truncated and summarized version would be: family*, friends, a lovely roof over my head, a paladin I love very much, cats everywhere, a job that pays well and doesn't freak me out, pretty cool coworkers, and all of you. ♥ I have stories to tell and ways to tell them, things that give me great pleasure to mess about with, and a world made up of people who give me joy. Life is very good.

*God, I am so lucky to have my family, I don't even. As I put it to Mom (mostly joking) today: "Hell, I don't even want to punch more than half of them in the face more than half the time." I have some relatives I don't like and don't love, but my immediate family and the relatives who are part of our consistent celebrations: hell yes. My mother adopts my friends (no, seriously) and makes them part of the family;
benjamindunbar is here for every holiday, and calls her Mom, and is treated like one of the family. (You know my mom has accepted you when she lets you cook and/or do dishes in her house.)

I know I need to do my Dear Yuletide letter, and I swear to cheese I'm going to do it, but for tonight, I am basking.

thanksgiving, family, gratitude
