End-of-week round-up

It's been quite an up-and-down week.

If I do the negative side first, to get it out of the way, the big one which massively outweighs any other would be the drama with A on Thursday , which was the day he scared the living hell out of me by waking up in agony, leading to a horrible process of NHS online > 999 call > advised not urgent enough so call 111 > seemingly endless damn fool questions to both me and him > we'll send you an ambulance > no sign of ambulance > call taxi > no sign of taxi > call taxi firm back to be told they aren't bloody sending anyone > tear up card for crap taxi firm and call second taxi firm > wait some more > finally paramedic arrives.

The pain apparently disappeared just around the time the paramedic arrived, but he was awesome and asked sensible questions and took a whole bunch of readings before confirming A's suspicion that kidney stones seemed the most likely culprit. A urine test at the nearest walk in centre later that day also backed that hypothesis up.

And, ye gods, but getting through that experience is the kind of thing which puts everything else in perspective...

Unsurprisingly, spending much of that day dealing with that, including a couple of hours of us waiting at the walk in centre, meant that I ended up behind on my work hours for the week in one of the two jobs, but that's the job in which I'm not particularly behind in workload terms.

Positives for the week included:
- ordering a new pair of glasses following my optician's appointment which are Actually Quite Nice (and ever so slightly steampunk)
- finding enough time for a decent amount of exercise and housework
- a nice evening in on my own on Friday where I finally watched Some Kind of Wonderful (maybe not quite as enjoyable as The Breakfast Club, which is a film I never get tired of re-watching, but pretty good all the same)
- a nice evening in with A on Saturday where we ate lots of chocolate and discovered that Deutschland 83 is rather good
- everyone being back from travels and stuff so the whole gang was there for Sunday lunch
- getting loads of nice Lush bathbombs etc in the not-so-secret-Santa and finding that Mark was pleased with the selection of beers I picked up for him in York
- catching up with the first few episodes of Dickensian, which is jolly good fun.

conspicuous consumption, work, tv, life stuff, films
