The snow hadn’t stopped falling since they had arrived in Minnesota. Not that anything like that would ever stop Jack when it came to fishing.

“What do you think Jack had to bribe Teal’c with to get him to go with him?” Daniel asked as he picked up a handful of snow from the ground and started packing it together into a ball in his gloved hands.

Sam looked over her shoulder toward the frozen-over lake beyond the cabin. She had woken up that morning to the sounds of a pickaxe chipping at the ice and some pretty colorful cursing from a certain Air Force officer. “Probably a promise that he could have some time to go visit Rya’c,” she said with a laugh before turning back to watch as Daniel started rolling the snowball he had made on the ground. While he did, she scooped up some snow to make another snowball and do the same.

“You know, I thought he was crazy when he suggested we come out here this time of year,” he admitted. He reached up to pull his hat back down, and Sam had to resist the urge to reach over and brush off some of the snow that had collected on the brim. Jack and Teal’c were on the lake out of earshot and line of sight, but she knew well how sneaky those two could be.

“I know.”

“I was really hoping that we would be able to just spend the weekend...you know.”

She looked at him with a soft smile, knowing exactly what he had wanted to do that weekend. “I know. But if we had both said no-.”

“Jack and Teal’c would have been suspicious.”

Daniel’s snowball was now the size of a small boulder, so he rolled it into position and moved back. He started making another one while Sam finished hers and placed it on top of the first one. Soon they had their snowman put together, so Sam found a few tree limbs that would do for arms and stuck them in its side while Daniel took his gloves off to draw a face.

“God, that’s cold,” he said, shaking his fingers once he finished.

“It is snow, Daniel.”

He looked at her. “I know that, Sam.”

Laughing, she pulled her own gloves off, so she could take his hand and rub it between her palms. She then looked around briefly before deciding to risk it and placing a kiss on his knuckles. As she did, she heard his breathing hitch.

“Better?” she asked.

“Oh yeah,” he murmured, stepping closer to her. “You know what we should do?”

She looked up at him. “What’s that?”

“Make snow angels,” he said before grabbing her and pulling her down to the ground with him.

“I don’t think this is how you make snow angels,” she told him as she landed on top of him in the snow bank.

“Sure it is. When they’re angels making love.”

Sam looked down at Daniel, their faces inches apart. His face was pink from the cold, but his blue eyes were bright as he looked at her, a smile on his face. Any thoughts that Jack or Teal’c could be somewhere nearby were totally pushed aside. “Can angels make love?”

“Well, Ascended can, and since I’m pretty sure they’re the basis for the most of the angel legends-.”

She put her fingers over his lips for a moment to stop him before closing the distance between them and kissing him deeply. Groaning, Daniel reached up to tangle his fingers in her hair. Sometimes, she still couldn’t believe that they were here like this, but after Janet’s death, they had both realized that they couldn’t keep dancing around the feelings they both had, not when life could be so short.

After several moments, they broke apart, their breath apparent in air between them as they stared at each other again.

“I love you, Sam,” Daniel said softly, his fingers trailing over her temple and across her jawline to her lips.

She felt her heart slam in her chest. It was the first time he had said the words to her even though she had been pretty certain about his feelings for a while now. “I love you too.”

He raised his head up to kiss her again, softly this time. When he fell back, he turned his head to look toward the cabin. “How long do you think they’ll be out on the lake?”

“Knowing Jack...quite a while.”

“Want to make snow angels inside?” he asked with a grin.

With a snort, she grabbed a handful of snow and tossed it at him before getting off him and hurrying toward the cabin, knowing he was following close behind.
