“You should have told me. I don’t mind. It’s just that I don’t like to be out of your loop like this.” Kate shook her head, as if to get rid of the stress she was under. Crimes were up. Anger ran through the city like a wave and this place was the only safe spot. Clint was a hard man to keep track of at times like this. Still, he could have called.
Clint’s lips thinned. “What’s your deal?”
“My deal?” Kate tried not frown. “What do you mean?”
“What. Is. Your. Deal,” he ground out each word as if she was a child.
“Run into any space junk on this last run? You seem dif-”
His eyes were red when his hand grabbed her throat. “You are out of line.”
Kate slapped his cheek. When he blinked, she did it twice more. The red was still there but dim. “Let go,” she growled, “and let’s call Stark. You’re not right.”
He shook his head, his eyes blank. This was not how she thought to spend her day.
