Fate only handed out one true love to each person but Hook felt like an exception to the rule, especially when he stood on the deck of his ship. No other pile of wood would ever be more dear to his heart. It would have been nice to have a flesh and blood body to hold in his arms through the night or the sound of a voice to bring him out of his own thoughts, but he wasn't about to complain about fate. Last time he thought he needed more than he had, he nearly lost everything. This was one moment he would be content.
Out of the corner of his eye, he thought he saw some movement out on the water. His heart flipped into his throat as he tried to reason away what he was seeing. A fish tail from a gigantic fish - or a mermaid? One of his dreams had always been to capture the interest of a mermaid, a sure way of finally gaining entrance to that underwater world.
Could fate, for once, be on his side?
