SGA Reading Recs

I was up VERY LATE last night (or, rather, this morning) reading fic on my phone. The mobile LJ app is quite nice for reading but not that great for surfing around too much. Since I made the list of all the stories I want to read, it works out quite nicely.

So I read two interesting fics last night. They're both old (one is 2006 and one, I think, is 2008) and haven't had comments on them since around the time they were posted but they were still so wonderful to read. Time has not dampened them!

The Year of Jubilee by vain_glorious (PG-13) is a slave!fic with a twist. Ronon isn't allowed to stay in Atlantis and so goes his own way. Comes across John being sold by some slavers so buys him out of the goodness of his heart. The only problem is they have a bond now that neither one of them can shake. This story made the back of my throat hurt a bit. It was lovely, though. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was because of the connection and what was reality and I want to reread again to see if I was right.

AND THEN String Theory, A Concerto for Violin in D Minor by toft_froggy (NC-17). While I'm not a huge McShep fan, I'm sort of surprised I've never come across this before. Of course, I didn't really go looking for fanfic until about 6 months ago and I haven't read through a lot of McShep stuff but this was LOVELY. Truly, truly gorgeous! It's an AU set in the orchestra world and I thought this was so well thought out and written. I would have reread it on the spot if my eyes hadn't been threatening to close. This is the one that is written in 2006 and I was sad to see that no one commented much past the date it was written.

Of course, that leads me to the fact that people get sort of weirded out when you start commenting on their older stuff. I know my eyebrows raise when I get any sort of hit on some of my early stuff. It's like, how did you people find this stuff? I thought it was hidden away in the closet. *grins* So I hope I'm not freaking people out by leaving comments on some of this older stuff. It does make me want to see if they have newer stuff because some of these names on this list are not name I recognize. Seeing as I've only been active in the fandom for 2 years (almost exactly) and some people dropped out as soon as the show stopped airing, it could be that they were very active and then found other interests. But that could mean that they have more stories to read!

I find it interesting that I decided to read these stories together. They both deal with "mental disorders" and I only just realized that. Huh. Interesting combo.
