A face to go along with the deed

When I lived in Colorado, I worked with a lady named Talia who was a bit like my "work mom" and was just generally a person I ran to with interesting story ideas that I never really got around to writing and anything else that no one else cared. She always listened to me.

Now it's my turn to help her out. I wish I could do this from closer but I'm going to have to do it from Idaho.

Recently, she found out that her 10 year old granddaughter, Delia, has leukemia.

So I guess I know who I'm shaving my head for this year. I wish I could do more but there's not much else I can do but pray and try to spread the word about childhood cancer. It's real and it will hit someone you know at one time or another. Adult cancer is horrible enough but most adults who are going through it have lived a life they can look back on. Those going through childhood cancer haven't lived long enough to have any true memories. Some of them haven't had a first day of kindergarten or a first time at summer camp. They've never gotten Mickey's autograph at Disney Land or bobbed for an apple at a Halloween party. Some have never chased a butterfly with an empty canning jar with punched holes in the lid. Most haven't had their first kiss and might not ever get to go to their prom or high school graduation. College is a dream they haven't even started dreaming about yet.

But what can you do? There are a lot of possibilities. One of them is heading over to my St. Baldricks donation page and giving to a great organization that helps fund research for children's cancer.

If you don't want to donate to this organization, head over to your nearest Children's Hospital (they're all over) and see if there's one they like.

Another would be to pray, if you are so inclined.

Either way, I do hope you'll keep Delia and her family in mind this holiday season.
