Title: Two of a Kind
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Emmeline Vance/Severus Snape
Word Count: 164
Prompt: for deathlydragon who asked for Severus/Emmeline - talent as the first_order Drabble-A-Thon

“Mine can go higher than yours.”

Emmeline grimaced as she saw what Severus was talking about. Before she did anything, she looked around to see if anyone was paying any attention to the two people in the corner. It was where they spent most of their time, neither one of them feeling as if they were part of the group, and no one every paid them any attention.

“Mine is brighter. What’s really important about that spell, anyway? That it can go high or that it can light up a room?” Irritation wiped the smirk from his face. Emmeline tried to keep from smiling. He made it too easy. “That’s what I thought. Come on, Severus. You aren’t going to beat me at this game. I’m so much more talented than you.”

Emmeline felt guilty when he stomped out of the room but not enough to go after him. He was a big boy. No matter what happened, he could take care of himself.

Title: Look of Wonder
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Charlie Weasley/Nymphadora Tonks
Word Count: 266
Prompt: for megans_writing who asked for Charlie/Tonks - Hippopotamus at the first_order Drabble-A-Thon

Charlie had a grin on his face that simply could not be ignored. Try as she might, Tonks couldn’t leave the room with him grinning in the corner like that. To cover up the fact that she was waiting for everyone to leave, she asked Molly for the recipe for her world-famous apple tarts.

“Does your mother need it again?” Molly asked, looking very confused.

Tonks shook her head. “No, it’s for me.”

“You… know how to bake?”

So, it wasn’t the best excuse. She should have gone with the excuse Molly had handed her so she wouldn’t have to lie. “I thought I would give it a try.”

And so she sat, patiently writing out the recipe with all the foreign sounding words. What exactly was a pinch of salt? She was rewarded for her efforts when she walked back into the main room where Charlie still sat in the corner, his arms folded over his chest as if he had nothing better to do than wait for her to show up once again.

“What are you smiling about?” she demanded to know.

“When you were twelve, what did you tell me you wanted for Christmas?”

She had to think about that for a few precious seconds. “A bicycle?”

“No. A hippopotamus.”

Tonks’ eyes grew wide. Only Charlie would remember something from so long ago. “You got me a hippopotamus?”

“No.” He ducked his head, shyly. “But it’s nice to know that I can still make your eyes get that look of wonder in them.”

“You really are the nicest guy, Charlie Weasley.”

“I try.”
