Thoughts and prayers tonight for everybody in the Dark Zone in Manhattan and on Staten Island, where conditions are bad and getting worse. Dear Mayor Bloomberg: those 93,600 bottles of water you're distributing to the NYC Marathon runners are desperately needed elsewhere. Now. The lack of common sense and decency here floors me.

I got off easier than many. I never lost power, although my cable TV and internet have been out for a couple of days that seem like weeks. The water stayed outside where it belongs (thank God I'm on high ground). Work is still closed -- Princeton got hit harder than we did. Sandy has arrived in Mount Holly. We're having wind gusts of up to 75 miles per hour and beaucoup de rain. Unlike my old apartment, however, the windows don't fall in, so the water remains conveniently outside. *g* The view through the patio doors is impressive; the grass and trees are dancing and the rain is being driven horizontally into the door ( Read more... )

I got the call that school is closed for Monday and Tuesday -- wise, I think, since Princeton floods at the drop of a soggy hat. Goaded by my sister, I made a last-minute run to the convenience store to pick up water, ice, batteries, a couple cans of food, etc. The store was empty and had plenty of supplies left.
