Yes, all of this.

So mad at NBC I could spit. I'm on the west coast and have to wait another three and a half hours for the tape-delayed Opening Ceremonies. And then they don't cover Sport, they turn the Olympics into a Lifetime Movie of the Week.

And then they don't cover Sport, they turn the Olympics into a Lifetime Movie of the Week.

THIRTY MINUTE LONG FLUFF PIECES.

ABOUT THE *COUNTRY*, NOT EVEN AN ATHLETE.

And they do this in non-Olympics, too. Every sport that's not a "real" one gets covered like it's some heartwarming blah blah blah blah blah, not like it's a goddamn *competition*.

And the corporatism goes up to new levels and when my mom declares we should boycott I can only think she's right...and with twenty minutes to go before NBC's embargo finally at least gives us something to watch I've been counting down to this all day.

Well, I don't spend any money on it (I don't even have cable), and I'm not a nielsen family, so I guess I'm boycotting it in effect ;)

my thoughts exactly.

NBC thinks this is a fluffy movie that just happens to be about athletes at a sports competition

indeed. they really overemphasize the whole "history in the making" aspect of it.

Yeah, they prop the stakes up really high. And then someone, gasp, doesn't win, and so now it's become a tragedy, because NBC was pumping up expectations and blowing a lot of air, and then the athlete didn't win, so it's time to rip them down again. I fucking hate that cycle. Life is not a film and these are people, not characters.
