I had been so proud of myself for cutting down my to-read shelf to only 2 shelves. But now I'm left with 2 shelves of books I'm not sure I want to read. Ever. Or at least 2 shelves of books I'm not thrilled to read.
So what did I do? I gorged myself on pop-lit... I bought all the books in the Dresden Files series (I've read them all, but want to re-read), and a couple more Laura Lippman books, and a favorite from college... The Basic Eight. All for the lovely price of $10 - between sales, Amazon Prime, and some giftcards I had for Amazon. Technically Josh paid for them, so I guess they were really free. Not bad for 9 books... I should have just waited and gone to the used bookstore instead, but I wanted some instant gratification, and it's tough to get to any bookstore anyway.
Climbing has kept me busy, work is still shit-tastic. I'd been getting kind of excited about derby after having an absolutely mind-bogglingly good scrimmage practice last week. I took out Joy Collision, went in 3 jams in a row, jammed a couple of times and scored a little and was just all around more aggressive than I've ever been before. Since then I haven't made any other practices for various reasons. Oops. We're doing a scrimmage with DC on Sunday as a "makeup" of our canceled bout. Hoping I can bring the crazy skills I had last week.
Money-wise I'm feeling lovely. I'm actually able to reliably put money in savings which is wonderful. With the holidays over I don't have any big expenses coming up, though I'll probably spend a couple hundred on some derby gear upgrades - helmet liner, wheels, bearings, toe stops, etc. Totally do-able though, even while still putting a few hundred a month in savings. Hopefully I'll be able to start kicking stuff back to my ING account again, not that the interest rate is much good on anything right now...
Josh and I bought a cat tree to celebrate the kittens' first Christmas and their birthday this week. So far they're loving it. They haven't tried the hammocks yet, but it's only been 2 days. We're also going to start leaving them out for the day sometimes. We'll see how that goes.
LJ certainly is quiet lately. Is anyone out there?
