Yes, my landlady is going through one of her 'active' periods. As a result there is crap all over the house. Including a nice heap, including two beds and a bookcase, right at the bottom of the stairs, in front of the door. Whilst its technically possible to reach both stairs and door, I'm not sure any sane person would attempt it.
This wouldn't really be a problem, except I know that at some point her active phase will pass, and a whole load of the crap will just stay put. For a long long time. There's some part of my brain that won't let me make a fuss about this, since it is in fact my landlady who's responsible, and the only reason I have a place to live... Sigh.
Cafe Scientifique was cool. Turned into more of a discussion on presenting science in the media, which was fascinating. After
chrome_cherry and
geekymonkey left, the questions continued and segued neatly into maths questions like;
"What is i (square root of -1)?" and "Can you explain what e (root of natural logarithms) is?" and a discussion on the Schrodinger Equation, something I covered in yr 2 of a physics degree and we spent at least a couple of weeks on.
So whilst the lecturer tried to explain these to a less than scientifically trained audience I slowly cracked up at the back of the room. To be fair, he did a good job, and was a good and engaging speaker. But oh, so funny.
Quote of the night; "What is it that made a mathematician come up with this equation?" answer; "Loneliness?"
