you're the bees knees baby I missed you bad . . .

. . .is what I said to my laptop today when I was finally able to use it again (ok, not really). My power supply thingy broke about 2 weeks ago and so I couldn't use the laptop since its battery life sucks. Tim and I were sharing his computer, but since it's in the bedroom (because this apartment is so god damn small), I can't use it at night when he's sleeping. Anyway, my new one arrived in the mail today so I was able to charge my laptop back up and can once again sit in the recliner on it while wasting my evenings. Oh, having google back at my disposal to satisfy random curiousity at any moment!

What else. Oh, I was sick for pretty much the last week and a half. Cold, fever, sore throat, headache, sinus cloggage, etc. Ugh. It's mostly over now, so that's good. I missed each class once . . . and I thought that maybe this would be the golden semester where I didn't miss a single class. Alas, alas. I'm better, now, though.

Last Thursday I went to the Thursday Night Reading, just to be sociable and involved and whatnot. I'm glad I did. Before it began the head of creative writing came over to me and asked me if I'd like to teach a creative writing workshop next year. I said ABSOLUTELY! So, no promises, but my name is on the short list for that. Awesome.

I need to pick out my classes for next semester. I have no idea what I want to take and I think registration starts tomorrow. Hahahaha. Go me. Luckily my advisor is also the teacher of my class tomorrow night, so I'll have a quick chat before or after class.

We're trying to do a short sale on the house. This means dropping the price every 2 weeks until it sells. Given the situation, the bank will forgive whatever balance is left after the house sells. We won't make any money or even break even, but we'll be out from under paying that mortgage & the utilities on the house WE AREN'T EVEN USING every month! Yay for a light at the end of that tunnel. Hopefully my brother will be able to find a positive living space soon so he can avoid returning to the lair of MOM.

Last Friday Rook's class had a little nursery rhyme recital. It was adorable! Rook recited "Old King Cole," "The Muffin Man," and "Little Jack Horner." He dressed as Old King Cole (foil crown and scrap piece of red velour cape bound with a plastic bead "jewel"). He didn't miss a single word. Tim and I were very proud of him! It was also good to see him around his classmates and see his little friends (including Nancy, the girl he thinks is pretty). During the reception after one little boy did point at me and yell "Rook's mom" for some reason, but it was still enjoyable.

Looking forward to the weekend. Rook will dress up as a pirate and we'll go trick-or-treating and maybe to the mall. Tim's birthday is the 1st and he has both Halloween and his birthday off, so that's nice. I'll make him a cake and a nice dinner. Of course, I can't get him an Imo's pizza down here, but I'll figure something out.

Classes are going well. I'm getting along with my teachers and getting positive feedback from them. I'm behind on painting. I didn't paint while I was sick. I don't feel the painting itch tonight and if I try anyway I won't like the product. Hopefully it'll kick in with a vengeance in the next couple of days (when it's really in gear, sometimes I'll do 2 in a night).

rook, random, halloween, school shit, teaching
