I'm in Denton! No surprise there. I also have some news to post about along with some fun pictures from the trip so far. :3 The drive up was pretty interesting, to say the least...
So, yesterday we arrived and I had insomnia and watched Snakes on a Plane before finally passing out. xD But on the trip here, Daniel, our GPS (which didn't get stolen in the car-theft, unlike we first thought! :D), decided he hated us and got us lost in a bunch of country roads. xD
A liiiittle creepy. xDD
The country roads wind all through people's private ranches, so there were cows everywhere. xD Very Texas. xP
When Daniel finally got us out of the country roads, we hurried to find a gas station because we were getting a little low... and we saw more cows! Twelve gallons of milk...? What?! xDD
Pretty green countryside on the way to Denton! :D Unusual to us who have been stuck in Lubbock for so long! It'll be nice to finally live in a place that isn't brown all the time. xP
Fast forward to today! We called Residency a couple times (through different people because we forgot some questions... xD), and found out that it's practically impossible to avoid never living in the dorms. They said to Codie that if you've been out of highschool for more than two semesters, you can/might be able to living off-campus. Otherwise... we don't really fit any of the other criteria for living off-campus. D: But, that means we just have to live in the dorms for our first semester before me and Brandon will be able to live off-campus as well. Hopefully that will work out.
We did go tour the demonstration dorms... >_> And... they're fucking tiny. Luckily, the dorm halls are co-ed, so me and Codie and Brandon wouldn't be TOTALLY separated. They also have private dorm rooms for just one person... I'm not sure if I want to do that (Codie and Brandon can request to be roommates), or if I want to go for the "college experience!" and get a roommate. xD I just remember Bladey's horror stories of her roommates.. And cousin Liz's roommate who peed on her things while super drunk... >_> And... well, I've damn well never heard a good story about college roommates. xD But hey. It'd be fun?
So, with this in mind, we went to all the addresses I had collected from Craigslist to go look at. The nicest apartments told us that they couldn't put three people in a two-bedroom apartment. ... what? D: Why?! I mean, they said that they lease by person, but why can't we just pay a little extra and have three people?! >_< AND they didn't have any three-bedrooms. Rrrghhh. But, they were really nice and they did give us a list of apartment buildings that DID have three-bedroom apartments. So, we're going to look at those tomorrow, maybe. We spent today looking at those houses I had already found. :3
Codie got a little testy about trying to find the addresses because he was a bit nervous/hot-tempered about driving around Denton, so we had to visit one house twice, but it was SO close to campus that I couldn't let it go. xD We found it the second time around, and it was GREAT. We would be in building "B" of a duplex, but that is the one closer to the road, actually, and it's BRIGHT yellow. x3 Like, SUNNY, happy umbrella yellow!
There was one big real estate company that had a bunch of rent houses available that were all pretty close to campus, so I wrote down a bunch of the addresses and we visited most of them. Half of them were COMPLETE crap and falling apart. x__x But one of them was just CHARMING and perfect! It was partially hidden in vines and trees, and it's really close to campus, too, and it's just -great-. Really cute. :3
So, with those two on our "yes" list, I made some calls and found out that the cute, tree-hidden rent-house is smoker-friendly and pet-friendly, so that's good. :D I coudn't get a hold of the landlord or other tenants for the duplex, so I left a message and am going to try calling them again later. The only reason we're bothering is because we still might be able to move into a house and just avoid the dorms. I mean, can they rip us from our lease? Really? If so, then it would still be nice to see if we can't get the lease... saved? for us for December-ish...? xD Too hopeful, I know, but it's an idea. *shrug*
With time to kill, we decided to go out to Dallas... and go to the IKEA store. xDDD
I've never been to an IKEA store before! >w< It was -incredible-. They have almost all their stuff set up in show rooms and show houses and... god, so tempting to buy furniture and shit. @__@ Ah, well... I can buy my dish ware there, at least. xD Also funny? The IKEA store is sitting DIRECTLY behind the "welcome to Friso" sign. xDD (IKEA is in Frisco, TX, technically, but that's in Dallas.)
The IKEA store also shares a parking lot with Ashley Home Furniture, Rooms To Go, and a bunch of other furniture and rug stores. xDD It's insane!
Last, but not least, it also is right near the Dr. Pepper.... Ballpark? >_> Codie was convinced it was the Dr. Pepper factory, but unfortunately... just a ball park. xD But it looked cool. 8D
Castle-like. xD That's all for now, and I'm going to get pictures of the houses we're considering tomorrow!! (And look at more apartments. >_< *sigh* Fun.) Oh! And we're going to take a proper tour of UNT tomorrow. :D Hurrah!
All-in-all, we all love Denton. :3
