Day 17: Lunch

Aug 05, 2006 08:51

Havoc gave his nurse a smile before heading strait for the food. He was surprised to see he was the first one here. But that meant no line for food. And that was a good thing in Havoc's mind. He grabbed a tray, piling it with whatever he could, and took a seat facing the entrance so as to see the colonel or Hughes as soon as they came in ( Read more... )

"Hi there," Havoc said with a smile. "I'm Havoc." He didn't remember seeing her before. And he always remembered the pretty ones, so she must be new. Granted, she appeared too young to flirt with, but that didn't mean he couldn't still be welcoming and friendly.

"Why so gloomy? The food isn't that bad!" Havoc backed up his statement by taking a big bite of his sandwich and chewing enthusiastically. He doubted it was the food that had her down, but Havoc always tended to try and lighten the mood as best he could with humor.

"Nice to meet you too, Elena," Havoc responded with a grin, once his mouthful of food was swallowed.

He nodded thoughtfully and leaned forward, his arms resting on the table. "Yeah, I know. It can really get to a person. The trick is to try not to focus on how bad it is. You gotta remember to laugh and smile. To not let this place wear you down and beat you. It's the little things that get you through and keep you going. The simple things really." Havoc offered her another smile along with an apple.

"So these guys from earlier? I take it they were from your world? That's gotta be weird to hear stuff like that. When I first got here, I saw someone who'd been dead for years. I guess they take us from all different times, not just places. I don't even try to understand it. It just causes headaches."

That had been... interesting, to say the least. Dias had been nice enough, but there was something anout Scar that Roxas found a little unsettling. It wasn't quite the bad attitude either - the blonde had honestly seen worse. It was all that suspicion. Being wary of people was one thing, but after it reached a certain point it was just plain unreasonable. And somehow, he got the feeling that he couldn't just chalk it up to some exaggerated paranoia ( ... )

Sora, meanwhile, was seated on his own at a table, smiling as he watched Havoc and a young girl converse while he munched on a sandwich. It paled in comparison to his mother's cooking, but thinking about that would just make him more homesick than he already was. It was good to see Havoc--the blond man had been rather scarce as of late. Sora had enjoyed his one conversation with the military man and hoped he could speak with him again sometime soon.

That isn't to say the boy was completely oblivious. He felt eyes on him and turned his gaze to settle on Roxas. He almost stood up, wanting to speak to the boy before someone else got to him, but...

Well, Roxas was coming his way.

He felt relieved. That meant that they both wanted to talk to each other, which might cut down the awkwardness some. He could only hope.

Roxas was honestly glad that Sora had noticed him. At least this way, there was no way to duck out at the last second. Not that he'd intended to, but insurance was always nice. This was just one of those things he had to do.

The blond settled into the table next to his other, turning his chair to face him.

"Hey," he offered, a little awkwardly. "You doing okay...?"

This was definitely surreal, but Sora did his best not to seem so fazed. Swallowing his bite of sandwich, he sat a little straighter in his seat. They both wanted this, so...

Calm.

"Yeah, I'm good," he responded as cheerfully as he could with a certain weight having settled in his stomach. He wasn't even sure why he was so nervous, but he supposed it was an understandable reaction...

"How about you?"

After his conversation with Cliff, Hughes was eager to get some food. He followed his nurse to the cafeteria and got in line for food, noticing Havoc already engaged in conversation with a young woman. He got his food and sent the other man a friendly nod before dropping himself down at an empty table. He knew he wasn't going to have to wait very long for company - he never did.

He'd have to let Roy know about Cliff, next chance he got to talk to his friend alone. And then there'd be a whole new batch of patients to look over....

Scar didn't really know why he hadn't left the paper that Dias had been drawing on back in the Arts and Crafts room, even after being offered to keep it. After all, the subject matter something he looked at enough on a daily basis as it was, and it wasn't exactly something he liked being reminded of unless there were blue uniforms to go along with it.

For better or for worse, blue was a clothing color rather lacking at Landel's, which made bumping into someone a little too familiar that much easier, especially when focusing on something else of interest.

Dammit. The Ishbalan hoped it wouldn't turn into something along the lines of his incident with Eddie, especially when he was feeling so... off. It was hard to stop thinking about the last shift when such strange words had been exchanged during it, though---

Oh.

Scar's eyes widened slightly as he blinked down at another "friend" who hadn't proved so trustworthy.

The Ishbalan scowled, turned, and began to walk away.

"Hey!" Hughes wasn't about to let Scar walk off, not when he had him alone. There was no reason for the Ishbalan to stalk off, not with Roy nowhere to be seen. "Have a seat, I've been wanting to talk to you." Maes' voice was open and friendly, and he waved his hand to indicate the open seat next to him.

He'd been wanting a chance to talk to Scar about what had happened the previous morning. It was clear that the Ishbalan had taken offense, and he wanted to clear everything up.

Hughes was determined to make a friend of Scar, one way or another.

Scar froze in place as Hughes called for him to stay, body tensing in something that must have been aggravation just below anger. He remembered the last time he and the major had spoken, and although it had been Mustang who had driven him off in the end, the investigator hadn't made any effort to put in a good word for him.

The Ishbalan wondered why it bothered him so much. He thought he'd assumed that all who wore blue were backstabbing liars, but he supposed there was still some shred of stupid hope left in him.

Perhaps that same shred of idiocy that caused him to slowly turn his head towards the other man.

"What?" He asked coldly, making no motion to move otherwise.

Lust was rather disappointed to be pulled away from her conversation with Scarecrow to go to lunch. The man was fascinating. He was brilliant, polite, responsive and seemed to have a loose grasp on morals. In short, he was exactly what Lust enjoyed working with. She'd have to speak to him again. Of course, she would be seeing him tonight, but that was only for a moment. She knew better than to keep Scar waiting.

Speaking of... Scar was already being pestered by the soldier. Lust scowled a bit, and debating going over anyway but decided against it. She'd be seeing Scar tonight as well. Instead, Lust took her tray and found an open seat away from anyone. There were new patients, wonderful. Perhaps some of them would be useful. This latest batch had been quite a good one, in her opinion. Smiling a bit to herself, Lust pulled out her journal and flipped it open as she began to eat.

Speaking to that girl had been rather unnerving, if only because she had seemed to be referencing back to things he didn't exactly want to think about. While Landel's was definitely taxing, it did take one's mind off of other things--like the horrible situation back home. It was also an upsetting reminder of what he needed to get done ( ... )

"Colonel." Lust inclined her head politely when the alchemist took a seat across from her. Her eyes went immediately to his, focusing on the aubergine one. She still wasn't used to it and wasn't certain what to think of the colonel's strange eye.

The more pressing question on her mind, however, was what was the colonel doing joining her for lunch? She supposed there simply hadn't been much choice in the dining hall, but there were plenty of empty seats that weren't too close to others. But his two military companions were both here. Of course, one was already busy with Scar...

"And to what do I owe the pleasure of your company?" Lust asked, grinning slightly.

Roy certainly didn't miss the way she looked at him. She wasn't merely making eye contact; she was staring at something in particular. And he could hardly blame her, really. It was hard to avoid and meant more to her than it did to most ( ... )

Sniffing the air with distain, Dante tried to ignore the growling in her stomach as she politely refused food, instead strutting towards a deserted table. She wanted to watch what was happening, needing to discover what she was up against.

The other patients filed by, and every few moments, she was sure she saw someone she recognized. But she couldn't be certain in a place like this, unwilling to jump to any conclusions until she had the whole scenario figured out. Straightening her shoulders, she sighed loudly, hating to be left out.
