Day 17: Music Room

Jul 25, 2006 00:01

Sighing to herself as the nurse herded her into the music room, Alex resisted the urge to rub her temples. Eventually she knew she was going to have to check Skadi's memories to see just what she had been up to, but she had a feeling doing that right now would just make her headache worse. That would teach her not to be specific when she told ( Read more... )

Music room.

Huh.

Whatever they were playing managed to be melodious, calm, dull and slightly atonal. It sounded like something a Rodian might enjoy.

Chusa began to walk around a bit, picking up a few of the inrtuments and tried to figure out what they might do. Some things were basic... but the shapes were so odd. She recoginzed what might be a simple plastene pipe, one that a littling might practice on and the stringed thing looked vaugely like an Alderaanian lute.

tuh-wheet

Chusa pulled the pipe away and frowned at it. She'd been able to figure out how it was supposed to work, although the number and placement of holes in the little plastic thing was a bit tricky.

She hadn't been putting much force into her small practice attempts, no need to hurt her own ears with her fumbling, much less anyone elses. But she was fairly sure that she'd never actually played something like this now, at least there was nothing practiced or instinctive about her fumblings with the thing.

Or it could just be a piece of recyced trash that couldn't play a tune even if you'd shoved up somewhere unpleasant. On a Hutt.

Chusa looked over at Kadaj and shrugged a bit. "Simply attempting to determine if I knew how to play it. It's one of the few things I recognize."

She nodded over at a few of the other instruments, "Most music is electronically created, synths and such. Real intruments are more of a luxury item or a cultural affectation."

She set the plastene pipe back down. "As it turns out, I don't know how to play it and other than banging away on one of those drums, I don't think I know how to play on any of these. Must not have a muscial aptitude."

There, she'd learned something about herself.

BAM. The painfully obvious sound of Ichigo's back hitting against the floor rang out as the young shinigami was literally tossed through the open doorway of the Music Room by an orderly with at least a 150 lb advantage over him. Squeaking softly against the tiled floor, his clothing could be heard as he slowly skidded to a halt; while the fleeting momentum carried him forward, his legs were slightly elevated from the ground, and once he had finally come to a complete stop, they dropped, his heels clashing against the floor. For a moment, there fell an eerie, perfect silence ( ... )

Trying to resist the urge to just drop her face in her hands and groan for the apparently rather absurd reason for Ichigo's impromptu flying lessons, Alex settled for just arching a brow instead as she gave him a slightly bemused look. "How much property damage did this little upset involve?" Knowing him, even with his abilities restrained, it had to be at least a little...or he'd tried to beat on said nurse, but that should have gotten him drugged not just flung into the room, so who knew what had happened. It was a pretty impressive arc, though she could have done without that squeaking noise. At least it drowned out the music in here for a few moments though, or at least distracted her from it ( ... )

Comfortably, Ichigo had slid himself into a seat beside her. As he settled, he had raised a hand and placed it upon the opposite shoulder, the point where the hardest impact against the floor had occurred, gripping the joint and rotating it testingly. Nothing broken, nothing out of place, of course; it was scarcely noticeable, when stacked against the amount of punishment his thin, athletic body had absorbed over time.

Once he was satisfied, Ichigo leaned forward, resting the edge of his chin in the palm of his hand. There, he stared at her with a certain vacant sense for a moment, as if trying to put the pieces of his own questions together in his mind before blurting them aloud in some clumsy fashion.

"All I had to say was my name, and you knew me! How's that happen?" he suddenly exclaimed, tossing aside the silence earlier with a loud, startled tone. His eyes narrowed rather soullessly, two beastly orbs beneath brows ablaze. "You even knew I'm shinigami. You're not reading my mind or anything, are you?"

After a few moment of blinking in surprise, Ichigo managed to startle a giggle out of Alex. One of the few people she had spoken to and known more about then she should, and she wasn't reading their mind for once. The irony just made her snicker. Which made her feel better, but probably wasn't helping his irritation factor any. "No, no mindreading." She broke off to get another snicker under control. "Sorry, it was just ironic that you asked that question, since you aren't one of the people I -can- read." Well that and she hadn't actually laughed in a while, or at least not out of pure amusement. Though admittedly half of that was probably just a release of tension, it really hadn't been a fun day ( ... )

Hojo couldn't say he was particularly comfortable with being shuttled around, but he was a bit too unnerved to put up much resistance at the moment. When he was deposited in the music room he quickly and quietly found an out of the way corner, sitting and rubbing his neck absently. His throat was slightly red still, though he was somewhat grateful no one had noticed(or if they had, no one had commented). The fewer people he had to make excuses to, the better.

He'd tucked a few pieces of fruit away into his sweater pockets before he was shuffled off to the music room. He frowned slightly as he pause just inside the door. Something about the music was different, he couldn't put his finger on it. Feeling unsettled by the not quite comfortable noise he looked around. He spotted the dark haired woman from the other day and Hojo first off, then Alex. Alex appeared to be busy talking to someone so he retreated to an out of the way chair near the scientist and sat down, rubbing lightly at one temple.

Mrr? Hojo glanced up, frowning a little when he saw that Ashi had decided to settle near him. Perhaps he'd keep to himself... the scientist was feeling far less sociable than usual, not that that was at all surprising given the circumstances. He turned his head, facing the room again, his expression blank.

He glanced over when he caught movement out of the corner of his eye and saw Hojo looking away. "Are you doing alright, Aleksandr?" He didn't think Skadi had been annoyed enough to damage more then the man's pride, but it couldn't hurt to show a bit of concern.

The colonel truly had been looking forward to continuing that lesson Greed had been giving him in the cafeteria, but it was cut short. Roy found himself a bit unfulfilled as he entered the music room, scowling at whatever was playing as he located somewhere comfortable to sit down. Greed could be a very hard-to-find homunculus at times, so he wasn't sure when he'd be seeing the sin again. Still, he had the basic idea as to how to shield, so he could continue practicing on his own.

Yeah. He didn't need Greed's help every step of the way ( ... )

Luffy had expected to find a bunch of fun instruments to mess around with when he and Zoro had been ushered inside, but he was very disappointed to find very few, if any. Judging by what the small group of patients were doing already, it seemed that this place was more for just...sitting and listening than anything else.

A rather boring place, in Luffy's book.

Still, the people who were nearby seemed to be fairly interesting. Though he was still a little unsettled by what had transpired in the cafeteria, Luffy thought it might be a good idea to try and get more of his questions answered by people who'd been here longer than him. (As much as he liked Brock, he'd been there probably about as long as Luffy himself had, which meant that he hadn't learned too much about this strange place, save for a few, vague details that really didn't mean much to him right now.)

It didn't take long for Luffy to spot a pretty cool looking guy on the couch. His eyes were actually mismatched, which made the pirate wonder if he'd always been that ( ... )

Apparently it worked.

Roy glanced up, having been lost in quite a few thoughts. He had a lot to muse over, after all. But he'd been hoping for a distraction, so this was good. Even if he had been approached by quite an odd-looking kid, it was better than being ignored by people because he seemed too moody.

Then again, he got the feeling that this kid would have stepped up to him even if he'd been glowering and giving off a 'leave-me-alone' vibe.

He sighed and provided a nod. "Not really, no. Then again, not much happens in most rooms during the day." He supposed some rooms were better than this one, though. The Game Room, for instance, not that many patients actually played. Roy really would have liked to play a game of chess with someone at one point--it had been too long. But he didn't know how good his luck would be when it came to finding a partner to play with.

Watching Luffy move off towards Roy, of all people, Zoro quickly followed after, a slightly confused look on his face. He was still left puzzled and slightly unsettled by what had transpired in the cafeteria, but was doing his best to shrug it off. Luckily, when he'd seen Roy, his mind had found some other subject to latch onto. The two had never really finished any kind of conversation they might have had left the day before, and while Zoro didn't have much to say to Roy, he did know that the man at least knew more than anyone else he'd managed to meet in this shithole.

Moving to Luffy's side, Zoro only gave a small nod as greeting, crossing his arms over his chest.

Lust was in a subdued and thoughtful mood as she entered the Music Room, her mind churning with thoughts after her conversation with Martel.

"Do you like being human?"

"You were probably better off as a homunculus."

"Is there anything you really want? Like, something you'd do whatever you could to accomplish? Something really important to you?"

How had the chimera woman managed to hit upon every one of Lust's sore spots in one conversation? She sank down onto a chair with a small sigh, her eyes cast down and her knees drawn up under her chin. It was a position she found herself adopting often lately. She didn't know what was wrong with her. She seemed to be feeling things more strongly today than normal. And she found herself wanting. She chewed at her bottom lip, glancing up and scanning the room. She wanted to see Scar, wanted to speak with him, just wanted his presence. And if not Scar than Haru, because she was feeling oddly needy and desiring company ( ... )

Haruhi let herself be hearded into the music room by her pushy nurse after waking up all groggy and confused. One minute they had been working toward the center of the building, the next she was in her room waking up and feeling like she needed a few more hours. Surveying the room, she recognized a lot of people from previous trips around the hospital. They always seemed to be hearded together, like animals. Not a pleasant thought, but then again most thoughts about this place weren't.

She spotted Lust sitting in a corner of the room, looking downcast and feeling sorry for herself. Confused and worried for her new, and normally confident friend, Haruhi walked over softly. She set a gentle hand on the older woman's shoulder, and though she clearly felt sympathy for the woman, Haruhi's expresssion was definately not one of pity. "Lust? Are you alright?"

"Hmmm?" Lust glanced up, startled at physical touch. It was only Haruhi, who wasn't exactly the company Lust found herself wanting. But the girl was inoffensive and it was better than being alone.

"I'm fine," she said, waving her hand. "Simply lost in thought, nothing more. The mind tends to wander when left without stimulation." She offered a small smile, though it didn't touch her cat-pupiled aubergine eyes.

Fine as far as Haruhi had ever known the word generally meant not fine when used by someone sitting alone in a corner. It meant 'I'm angsting about something, but want anyone to know.' Though the idea of Lust having angst over anything other than Scar didn't exactly make sense to Haruhi. This must be about Scar, then. Dicey subject, that man.

"Well, when I get lost I try to go back the way I came. More often than not I find out where I was lost in the first place, and that's always something good to know." She smiled, an open happy grin.
