Day 17: Music Room

Jul 25, 2006 00:01

Sighing to herself as the nurse herded her into the music room, Alex resisted the urge to rub her temples. Eventually she knew she was going to have to check Skadi's memories to see just what she had been up to, but she had a feeling doing that right now would just make her headache worse. That would teach her not to be specific when she told ( Read more... )

BAM. The painfully obvious sound of Ichigo's back hitting against the floor rang out as the young shinigami was literally tossed through the open doorway of the Music Room by an orderly with at least a 150 lb advantage over him. Squeaking softly against the tiled floor, his clothing could be heard as he slowly skidded to a halt; while the fleeting momentum carried him forward, his legs were slightly elevated from the ground, and once he had finally come to a complete stop, they dropped, his heels clashing against the floor. For a moment, there fell an eerie, perfect silence ( ... )

Trying to resist the urge to just drop her face in her hands and groan for the apparently rather absurd reason for Ichigo's impromptu flying lessons, Alex settled for just arching a brow instead as she gave him a slightly bemused look. "How much property damage did this little upset involve?" Knowing him, even with his abilities restrained, it had to be at least a little...or he'd tried to beat on said nurse, but that should have gotten him drugged not just flung into the room, so who knew what had happened. It was a pretty impressive arc, though she could have done without that squeaking noise. At least it drowned out the music in here for a few moments though, or at least distracted her from it ( ... )

Comfortably, Ichigo had slid himself into a seat beside her. As he settled, he had raised a hand and placed it upon the opposite shoulder, the point where the hardest impact against the floor had occurred, gripping the joint and rotating it testingly. Nothing broken, nothing out of place, of course; it was scarcely noticeable, when stacked against the amount of punishment his thin, athletic body had absorbed over time.

Once he was satisfied, Ichigo leaned forward, resting the edge of his chin in the palm of his hand. There, he stared at her with a certain vacant sense for a moment, as if trying to put the pieces of his own questions together in his mind before blurting them aloud in some clumsy fashion.

"All I had to say was my name, and you knew me! How's that happen?" he suddenly exclaimed, tossing aside the silence earlier with a loud, startled tone. His eyes narrowed rather soullessly, two beastly orbs beneath brows ablaze. "You even knew I'm shinigami. You're not reading my mind or anything, are you?"

After a few moment of blinking in surprise, Ichigo managed to startle a giggle out of Alex. One of the few people she had spoken to and known more about then she should, and she wasn't reading their mind for once. The irony just made her snicker. Which made her feel better, but probably wasn't helping his irritation factor any. "No, no mindreading." She broke off to get another snicker under control. "Sorry, it was just ironic that you asked that question, since you aren't one of the people I -can- read." Well that and she hadn't actually laughed in a while, or at least not out of pure amusement. Though admittedly half of that was probably just a release of tension, it really hadn't been a fun day ( ... )

"Ehhhh?" was all Ichigo could manage as his initial reply, sounding utterly perplexed. The young man's eyes widened steadily to their fullest extent and began to twitch lightly, as if something in her words had rattled the clockwork of his brain down to its cogs and gears. "Did you say...manga?"

That's crazy! CRAZY! My whole life reduced to comics? Purely shocked, Ichigo grit his teeth sharply, then clutched each side of his head in his hands in disbelief. No, that can't be right! She's some kind of nut!

"Okay, if you know so much about it...what's the name of my sword?" he suddenly shot in a quick voice, hoping to catch her off-guard. If she was so familiar with his life, as if she could just pick it up off of a piece of paper, that sort of question would hardly be a problem.

Well at least he was testing her, and not just dismissing her right of the bat. That was about all she could hope for, since unlike Kadaj she couldn't just show him she was speaking the truth. "I'm going to assume you mean Zangetsu." The idea of calling something that could talk back an object was still a bit odd to her, but hey, not her world after all. "Speaking of, I'm going to guess you can't reach him here, or you'd be long gone." Most of his abilities had to be suppressed for that matter, or yet again he'd be just a faint after image ( ... )

"Damn...you're really telling the truth, aren't you?" Ichigo asked, bleary-eyed and blank as ever. Still, the reality of the situation was beginning to settle in, reducing the stress and easing him back down to a more tolerable mood. Finally, he let out a deep, gasping sigh, his spirit practically sinking down to the soles of his feet like some crushing blow through his vitals ( ... )

Rolling her eyes and sighing again, Alex made a face. "Yes I'm telling the truth. I mean, why would I lie?" And why did people keep saying that? What would she do, make this stuff up out of whole cloth? I mean seriously the reality was stranger then any fiction she could have come up with on her own, so why bother to improvise? Then again if they didn't know if was reality, that very fact could make it seem suspicious she supposed. The way that logic went in circles threatened to reawaken her headache though, so she shelved that line of thought and tried to remember to come back to it later.

"Hey!" Alex resisted the urge to swat him. "I am not a baka, in my world you -are- fictional. Teme." She managed to keep the muttered insult under her breath instead of out loud and she hissed softly as well before continuing. "It's a valid question anyway, since others arriving from your world may be from entirely different points in time. I mean, the dead are alive again here, though I suppose Shinigami put a rather different spin on that." She ( ... )

"Yeah, it's not really clear, is it?" He replied, laughing lightly. Suddenly, there seemed to be some humor in this odd conversation, something that was clearly a relief to the surprised young soul. Naturally, if she had kept up with his exploits, she would know how resiliant Ichigo was, and how fast he was to adapt to uncanny new situations. In a quick little snap, he had already risen from this murky doubt; leaning forward again, placing his hands on both of his knees like a pair of bracing rails, Ichigo returned to his usual, stable self, complete with perma-frown.

"I'm in my konpaku form right now. Out of my body, I mean. I am shinigami, but...I'm sort of...not?" he remarked, sounding and looking just as confused at his words as she might be as well, a stern, grumpy clentch to his expressions with brows pushed together in puzzled fashion. "Man, I think I was less confused when I didn't know so much."

That prompted a wry smile and amused grin. "Yeah, I feel that way most of the time. Still better to know what's going on, then to be surprised at the wrong moment. At least you don't have any companions here from a different time period then you come from, it gets really messy then. Though I suppose since you know it's possible now, it won't phase you as much if it happens." Which would save her the trouble of untangling the mess later if someone did arrive from a different time. Or someone Ichigo knew was dead anyway. Suddenly she winced. "Ichigo? Just keep in mind on the off chance it happens, people you -know- are dead, may show up here. They might not even remember dying." She could think of at least one person that would throw him for a serious loop if they appeared, and that was just off the top of her head ( ... )

"Hitsugaya-san? From the...mmm..." Ichigo paused; clearly, the name had struck a familiar chord, but the rest of the melody would be halted as he soundlessly mouthed a series of words into the open air. At the same time, his fingers began to extend from his hand, like tools from a Swiss Army Knife pulling free; amazingly, Ichigo was actually counting, trying to remember what division the young prodigy was from. "...ah, the 10th ( ... )

It was bad the more she talked to Ichigo, the more she wanted to just bury her face in her hands and groan. She was pretty sure he had just counted to figure out which division Hitsugaya was from, and shouldn't he already know that? "Yes, him. White haired kid with an ice dragon for a Zanpaktou? Though kid is kinda a misnomer..." He looked like one though, which was good enough for her. Otherwise trying to match up years with faces would keep her too busy to think about anything else, considering the odd mix of people they got here at times ( ... )

"Alright, good..." Ichigo said, promptly let tout of a soft sigh of utter relief at the negative answer. "I don't need that kind of trouble."

Rearing back in his seat, Ichigo then let a soft, lulling yawn escape his parted mouth as his hands curled comfortingly behind his head. No matter how startled, or even offended, he had seemed before, all he cared about for the moment was trying to relax.

"It'd be nice to have Hitsugaya-san here." he remarked softly, staring up lazily at the ceiling. "But I haven't sensed his reiatsu since I got here. Where did he go?"

"No one needs the kind of trouble Kenpachi brings. He's destruction and chaos in a package with an attitude." All of which was just plain something that could spell all kinds of serious trouble here. If he did ever show up, Alex was pretty sure she was going to make an effort to stay far, far away. Of course keeping Malice away if she borrowed their body might be quite a bit harder. Knowing her wilder shard, the kind of insanity Kenpachi possessed would be irresistible ( ... )

"People are here, but then they're gone, or different people than they were?" Ichigo suddenly shot back an odd reply. Lifting his head from its reclined position against the back of the chair, he tossed out a threadlike glance, with a riled character to his face. "You don't make any sense at all."

Judging by the sudden decline in mood again, Ichigo definitely didn't want to keep discussing the matter. In his own train of thought, there was nothing more to talk about, when it came to the bewildering events of Landels. Instead, there was clearly something on the young man's mind; from time to time, he would look at Alex for a moment, looking positively stymied and stubborn, before looking away again.

"So, you read about me?" he finally managed to say, his eyes cast away from her. "You haven't seen me do anything...private, have you?"

Unfortunately, Ichigo's neck could only turn his head so far away from the conversation; he would have covered his face completely, if only to hide the adorable, stubborn blush across his cheeks.

"This place doesn't make any sense, why should the explanation of it be any better? People are here, and sometimes they just disappear. Not that they die, that's happened too, but one day here, the next day vanished. After that, sometimes they reappear, but they aren't the people that left. Not exactly anyway. Sometimes they come from different points in time, but none of them remember being here before." Which meant that the vanished had probably been tested to destruction or somehow disposed of in other ways, since she couldn't see this place allowing duplicates to exist at the same time. Of course, some of them -might- have escaped, but she wasn't sure how likely that was. She doubted any of those she had apparently forgotten fell into that category, because unless the idea was to prevent knowledge of an escape from spreading, which made no sense since others still remembered the missing, then maybe she had seen their deaths and it had been bad. It was the only theory she had anyway ( ... )
