Grandma had a good portion of her intestine removed maybe a month and a half ago. she began rehab, and yanked her stitches and ended up back in the hospital.
did anyone call us?
no.
who called? D'bora, B's 2nd cousin and my 3rd cousin.
"yeah, i didn't know if they would call you or not, but i thought it was something you'd like to know."
you know... i've just about had it with this family. there is just some kind of disconnect that keeps them from understanding the idea of healthy behavior. i know what they were thinking. "they said they were through with us, fuck them."
fine, except Mom calls Grams & Gramps pretty regularly, just not as often as she used to. with four sisters and two brothers, three nieces and a host of other people related by blood, it doesn't occur to anyone that Mom maybe might really want to know that her own Mother is in hospital.
it's a decent thing to do, yes? a humane thing?
i don't know. of course, we're the ones who're wrong. we always are.
anyway, we called and talked to Grandma last week. Mom doesn't know if she wants to go, or not. personally, i do. because although i don't really like the woman, i certainly do respect and admire her and the woman's body has been rebelling against her for just about as long as i've known her.
it won't kill me to hug the old girl and maybe let her know that i give a damn.
