Because Scott and I have been watching season two on Saturdays on Global and the show just really deserves all the love it can get:
ten things I love about ReGenesis
1. David Sandström. He's a (loveable) asshole and a genius, and he hides it well, but he actually gives a crap about people. And I just don't buy that it's purely guilt motivating him to care about others the way he does. I really believe that he feels like he has this talent and he should put it to good use wherever he can so long as he's walking this Earth. If a problem can be solved by using science, then why not take that route and work with what you know? Like, I think how he's trying to prove that Owen had a predisposition to addiction is a bit far-fetched, (i.e. I don't think a judge would buy that argument for a second), but it's so Classic David Sandström. Of course, as he's a hardcore Man of Science he doesn't do so well with the fuzzy emotional side of things. I was watching one episode recently and that scene from A Beautiful Mind in which John Nash wonders, angrily, why he can't use rationality to deal with his illness, came to mind for some reason.
Dr. Rosen: You can't reason your way out of this!
Nash: Why not? Why can't I?
Dr. Rosen: Because your mind is where the problem is in the first place!
People and emotions aren't always rational, and he'd rather only deal with the science side of things, because that's his bag, but sometimes all that other stuff gets mixed in there too and it's interesting to see how he responds to it, as it's not what he's used to. This is also why he's crap at maintaining stable relationships with women.
Plus, I love how he dresses and Peter Outerbridge is hot.
2. Smarts. It's a smart, highly topical show. The writers do their homework and then some, is all I'm saying.
3. The One True Friendship that is Bob & David. Bob drives David a bit nuts sometimes, and David is too harsh and hurts Bob's feelings every now and then, but the love is there. It's crazy how well they know each other. In the episode they aired tonight, Bob made a particularly apt and fair observation to David, saying something to the effect of, "It's good that you feel guilty. You work better when you do." Ha! Bob: +1 point. David: Zero.
I always get it in my head that I should write multiple gen. fics about them but always end up chickening out. Really though, it would be too much fun. Scrabble games. Karaoke. OMG, road trip!
4. Strong character bonds. I love how they're always looking out for each other. Great chemistry. Oh, and, they sometimes have these awesome dinner parties over at David's fucking amazing apartment and I get jealous, which is ridiculous because who the hell gets jealous of fictional characters? But anyway.
5. Bob's sweaters.
6. Bob Melnikov (Dmitry Chepovetsky). So well-played, passionate, and completely endearing. I especially love when he stands up to David (see #3).
7. Carlos' accent.
8. Location, location, location. The show is filmed and produced in Canada, and I would argue that its production values are better than those you'd generally expect from any other Canadian television program.
9. Incredible soundtrack.
10. Canadian accents. ♥
In other news,
katrina87 linked to
her absolutely brilliant post (with caps!) about the potential of Pam/Karen in
