So this morning we were all set to go to Universal Studios, but the hostel people told us there were too many people going, and that if we'd like to go tomorrow, they'd make our transport free. $8 off each of our tickets? Sounds like a bargain to me! And so we instead went on the LA City Tour today.
First up on the tour was the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We were only there for about half an hour, unfortunately, but we got to look at some of the stars and take photos of the Chinese Theatre, the Kodak Theatre and various stores. There were tour groups EVERYWHERE and random guys constantly accosting you to take a tour! However, we saw something very exciting - the filming of a real and true tv show! It was NCIS (the LA one, unfortunately) and we have this photo of Chris O'Donnell (who is totally short in real life).

We had lunch down on Venice Beach. We tried an Australian food place. It was distinctly un-Australian food. We had baby back ribs, chicken and sausages - but they were all covered in American-style BBQ sauce. Also, there was a picture of a dingo on the table that looked distinctly unlike a dingo. We drove past the Santa Monica pier then and looked around the area a bit.
After that, we drove up to shop in Beverly Hills. And by shop, I of course mean, look at things we couldn't possibly afford. We touched a dress that cost $9,945! The plain tshirts cost $88 and there were guards in the jewellery stores. It was like we were wasting a fortune just being there! Then we went up on a drive up in the homes area to look at home of celebrities. We couldn't really see them, cos they were gated and covered with bushes, trees and hedges (of course), but the houses we did see were AMAZING. The cheapest house there cost $10 million. Apparently, just keeping the landscaping looking good on the streets of the neighbourhood costs $40,000 a year. The fire hydrants there are all silver too, instead of less 'common' colours.
Then we swung down Sunset Boulevard, driving past things like the building used in the original Die Hard movie and the Viper Room before heading up towards the Hollywood sign. We got up pretty close, but the roads were really crooked and narrow and there were about 50 zillion other cars and tourists up there. We also saw the city from a really good view. It took up the whole horizon. The Americans were all going on about how amazing and clear it was cos it was a sunny day with some good wind that blew on the smog away, but it was still pretty smoggy. Everything looks like a matte-painting even just a few blocks away because it's so hazey.

Anyway, the plan is for Universal tomorrow :D
