What I've been up to

A trade show in San Diego. The highlight was getting a stuffed dolphin from a vendor. The worst was that, in a conference call before the show, my boss told everyone they needed to email me certain information immediately, so I could get ahead on some work while I was on the plane (on the 4th of July!).

Just yesterday, I IM'd the following to my boss:

ME: Your time is ill spent on things I can--or have already--done.

I elaborated by saying I HATE YOU--to wit:

ME: We need you for higher-level stuff, and I hate you use your time frivolously. I jealously guard your time.

ME: That's I HATE TO hahahaha

Dinner with a bunch of friends from four jobs ago. Not one of us works for that company anymore, but we combat-bonded there (our boss was exactly like the boss in Office Space), and we've stayed in touch all these years. In fact, it's a good little network--I wrote up a resume for one of them, and that guy gave some good leads to another member of the team who has started his own consulting company, and three of them are working together again now--stuff like that.

I could go on and on about the personal dynamics of the group, but I think I'm the only one who would find that interesting. In short, it made me happy that we all got along so easily, and that the affection among us doesn't seem to have worn off at all.

A seminar on LASIK surgery. The presentation included footage from a procedure on a patient who stood in front of us and answered questions minutes before and after the surgery. That was kind of compelling.

We all got tested with a little machine that amazed me. You look into it like the gizmo at the DMV, and you stare at a picture of a little farmhouse. The picture fades out, twice, and in seconds, the person running the machine (doing nothing but pushing a button or two) reads you your prescription.

I'd never been to an eye doctor, so it was good to hear that my vision is fine. Jon's however isn't, so he's booked for a consultation with one of the doctors who gave the seminar.
