I got a new job. I didn't even mean for it to happen. Where was this fortune when I was jobless, or under-jobbed, for like, 2 years?!
This is the first time I've been recruited for a job--and I'm quite flattered. I'll have the same title, but I'll be working for a different (and, importantly, profitable!) division of the same parent company.
Apparently the expiration date on my wish to find a job in L.A. did not coincide with my moving across the country. So, except for occasional trips to trade shows and visits to the home office in California, I'll be working from home. My CEO friend congratulated me by saying that telecommuting is political suicide. "Your relationships and reputation will certainly erode!" he enthused.
The thing is, I have such a golden reputation at the home office that I think the only way I could possibly maintain it is to present brilliantly now and again. If I were in the cube farm every day, wouldn't I eventually appear merely human?
