Here are some more pics of Obama's visit.

From the whitehouse.gov site - check out how happy everyone looks to see Obama during his impromptu visit to the Byward Market. Americans, be prepared to see a lot more of this whenever he leaves your country. You may need to rest up afterwards for a while until you get used to it ( Read more... )

Canadian intellectuals get very snippy when we actually show signs of *liking* an American figure, or something the Americans have done. It's not an attractive trait - if we blindly worshipped everything from south of the border, then fine, but that doesn't happen.

Oh... oh, I just can't NOT do the joke.

"Hey, where the white women at?"

(for those readers at this lj who don't get it, I promise: it's not what you're thinking. It's very, very funny.)

Lili Von Shtupp: Would you like another schnitzengruben?
Bart: No, thank you. Fifteen is my limit on schnitzengruben.
Lili Von Shtupp: Well, then how about a little...
[whispers in his ear]
Bart: Baby, please! I am not from Havana.
Lili Von Shtupp: Will I... see you again?
Bart: Well, it all depends on how much vitamin E I can get my hands on.

Oh god, I'd forgotten how great that movie was. :D

I would bitch at Mr. Coyne, but since he's Canadian and I don't know all his childhood trauma, I'll refrain. But seriously, does he stomp about trying to kill the resurgence of hope wherever it lies? Kick puppies and tell kids there is no Santa? Who died and made him Scrooge? Seriously. No. Seriously.

Coyne is just a Central Canadian pundit with a privileged background. He's not worth the outrage, especially since this is a common complaint among commentators of his ilk in Canada.

And really, Ignatieff prompts squee on the part of us poli-sci fangirls -- but not so much in the rest of the world, I think. Particularly with his really startling resemblance to Kerry.

Hahaha, it amuses me to think there is someone out there squeeing over Ignatieff. Bless his heart. :)

It's so nice to see people PLEASED to see the leader of another country. I mean, for real, not only because of the politics he represents, but because he doesn't hold himself apart. GOBAMA!

\o/ People were just so happy to see him - the crowd around the Hill screamed in joy when he waved from behind the Plexiglas.
