2012 Year in Review

Dec 21, 2012 14:37

Well, I am stuck at work for another 2 hours and insanely bored, so I might as well do my year in review!

Fic

Lewis

Comfort Zone - A short fic for the Tenth Anniversary Canadian Shack Challenge.

Making Room - Written for the lovely maverick4oz, this was a bit of a stretch format-wise, and it's turned into one of my favourite Lewis fics among the ones I've written. It was later podficced by the wonderful croissantkatie.

First Light - A little morning-after ficlet.

A Matter of Distance - My first attempt at a Lewis historical AU, and also great fun to write.

In the Family - Written (along with the next four fics!) for the Lewis Week of Love on lewis_challenge, a wee snippet set in the same universe as my first Lewis fic, And We'll Talk In Present Tenses.

Life During Wartime - My second historical AU, this one set during the Blitz.

Hot Patootie - Written as a sequel to Old Dog, New Tricks, and features cross-dressing Hathaway. Because what is fic for if you can't put Laurence Fox in a corset?

Fair Play - Basically, porn. :)

Stupid Cupid - To wrap up the Week of Love, a Valentine's Day date for our Robbie and James.

Double Blind - I write a lot of pining!James, so it was fun to write some pining!Robbie for a change.

The Power of Suggestion - Because Lewis and Hathaway are made for "everybody thinks they're doing it" fics.

For Argument's Sake - A short little intense piece, with bonus porn.

Someone Like You - Based on enednoviel's amazing artwork of the same name, a print of which is currently adorning the wall over my home computer for inspiration. :)

Intentions - A post-retirement fic that's turned into a series, in which James is determined to court Robbie - at least until he tips his hand the first night.

Beginnings - Second in the Intentions series.

Shift - Third in the Intentions series.

Virtually Yours - a prompt I got a long time ago that turned into a WIP that didn't go anywhere for a while, and then suddenly did. Warning for shameless use of the "undercover as gay" cliché.

Terra Incognita - James, Robbie and a sex toy. I know, I'm as surprised as you are.

Choices - Fourth in the Intentions series. Right now I'm starting on the 5th and planning a 6th - I think that'll be it but I'm not sure. :)

The Eagle

The Upper Hand - A short ficlet for misspamela.

Cabin Pressure

Attitude Adjustment - I finally took the plunge into Douglas/Martin slash, and it was great fun to write these two and to try to provide a taste of some of John Finnemore's quirky humour.

And an as-yet unnamed fic for Yuletide in an as-yet unnamed fandom. Will it be in a fandom I have written before? Will it be in a new fandom? WHO CAN SAY?

In total: 22 stories in at least 3 fandoms, and over 83,000 words in all. Not bad, considering 2011 was my worst year on record for writing mojo.

Vids

Lewis

One Fine Day - Because Hathaway is totally a Chiffon.

Common Law

We Can Work It Out - On the list of Fandoms I Wish I Could Have Wallowed In For Longer, Common Law will remain one of the top. It was a quirky, funny show with characters you actually rooted for, and it was over far too soon. On the up side, this vid was shown at WinCon and by all accounts found to be enjoyable, so I'm glad I got to share a bit of the love of Travis and Wes.

2012 was also the year Tumblr became a major fannish platform (at least from my perspective) - not that that's a bad thing, but it makes it a little lonely here sometimes. I did post less overall, however, because I tended to save most of my political and RL rants for Twitter. In 2013 I may have to reevaluate what's happening with respect to LJ, but my main platform will still be DW or something similar as regards fannish pursuits.

Upcoming (hopeful) writing goals for 2013 include:

- A second original novel, probably historical, possibly set in post-WWII San Francisco. I need to get off my ass and start researching.

- Three old Merlin WIPs I've suddenly picked up again in the past little while

- The fifth and sixth fics in the Intentions series, and a Lewis gardening AU
