Motivation: Whether he went by Rex Racer or Racer X he had never been much for words. The speech he had pulled out at Thunderhead for Speed had possibly been some of his best work ever. Not to say that he didn’t have his own handier ways for inspiring the young Racer to be his best.

Mark: Speed had blushed heavily when his Mom had asked him what had caused the deep bruise on his neck at breakfast one morning. He coughed and made some half assed excuse about working on the car and quickly buttoned his shirt up higher. His mom let it go but gave Trixie a sly sidelong glance and a wink. Trixie blinked and stared at Speed from across the table with questioning eyes. He blushed even more when he felt her trace an ‘X’ on his leg with her socked foot under the table and he swallowed hard, nodding slightly. She giggled.

Movie: The movie didn’t matter. In fact, to hell with the movie! Speed was far to focused on the hand holding his. They never looked at one another but slowly Speed turned his hand around and entwined their fingers. His heart beat drowned out the movie and he was almost as excited as if he’d been racing.

Memorize: Speed watched as X slept. His chest rising and falling softly, warm beneath Speed’s touch. He tried so hard to commit the moment to memory so that when he woke up alone the next morning he could clutch the pillow X had been using and maybe still feel his presence there.

Marriage: “So are you two going to get married?” Trixie had been dead serious as she dipped down, looking at Speed under the Mach 5.

“WHAT!?” Speed raised up quickly, busting his head on the Mach 5’s bottom. Trixie couldn’t help but laugh at him.

“So innocent. You two already act like an old married couple! You’re positively boring lately!” Trixie helped Speed up and gave him a quick kiss next to where he’d hit his head.

“That’s crazy Trixie! You know who he is.” Speed flinched when she kissed him, already feeling the knot forming on his forehead.

“So? No one else does! Besides… You’d be adorable in a dress!”

“W…WHAT!???” Speed felt dizzy and a little confused. Trixie couldn’t stop laughing.

More: It had all started out so innocently. A hug, a kind word… anything to get the tears to leave Speed’s eyes when he talked about his long lost brother. When had it all turned into something more X couldn’t really say. X sighed softly to himself and brushed the hair out of his brother’s sleeping face. He could never again be the man Speed wanted him to be… but he thought he could at least give a shot to being the man Speed needed.

Mirror: Every now and then Speed would catch someone out of the corner of his eye and his heart would suddenly clench and he’d turn his head quickly only to see himself staring back with tears welling in his eyes. Always that pathetic face looking back at him and never the one he needed to see. He’d lost track of how many mirrors he’d broken.
