What should I do in London and St. Malo, France?

I'm going, with my stepfather, to London, the Channel Islands, and St. Malo, France. We'll be in London two days, the Islands another one or two days, and St. Malo for a week. He'll be at a conference in St. Malo, so I can go on day trips but not overnights from there.
What should I see? Any cheap London housing recommendations that are fairly central?
