croissants & Pain au Chocolat
I made croissants today and one pain au chocolat. There's still a dozen croissants waiting to be baked. I would have made them right after the croissants finished baking, but the bottom element of the oven burned out while the croissants were cooking. So Becky's oven is out of commission until further notice. The croissants were baked to perfection though.
We were watching Memento while the croissants baked. Part way through the movie there was this strange sound coming from the kitchen. I was the first on scene. There were sparks flying from the bottom of the oven door. I rushed to turn off the oven. The sparks stopped but there was still a bit of the element on fire. So Becky had me check what to do online. It said to keep the oven door closed, leave the house, and call 9-1-1. That seem drastic, so we called 9-1-1 to find out what to do. They sent a fire truck and four firefighters and a cop. Turned out everything was fine and all the firefighters were nice about it. They told us not to worry about the fuss.
So no harm, just fresh croissants, done in the end. Saturday, I'll retrieve my toaster oven from storage and we can bake the pain au chocolat.
