480 metres. 480 metres were separating the edge of the rocky cliff from the wide black Pacific Ocean. Waves were clashing against the mainland, the sound of them the only thing that was audible and the salty scent of the vast ocean the only smell that was perceived right now. It was an amazing view, proving how beautiful nature could be - if only this place wasn’t linked to a story of thousands of tragic endings.
With a bitter smile on his face, a young man was standing dangerously near the edge of the cliff, looking down to the dark sea, his heart beating incredibly fast. The clouds above in the sky were drawn together, forming a grey carpet and locking the sun away from shining down on earth.
I guess that’s how the weather should be in situations like that, huh?
Once again the young man smiled, this time brighter, but the sadness was still written all over his face.
“I didn’t know that this place is so popular” A sudden unfamiliar voice made the man turn and he flinched lightly in shock when he found another person behind him; the stranger placing himself right next to him before he smiled at the taller man brightly “Guess we are here for the same reason.”
The young man scrutinized his new acquaintance, noticing how nicely dressed he was. He wore a suit, nothing too extravagant but still fashionable; a big silver watch shining from his wrist - he was definitely not one from the poor side of life.
“I’m Sho, by the way” the stranger said incidentally while he looked down to watch the waves.
“Masaki” the young man answered automatically while he continued to watch Sho.
“Can’t see why you have a reason to be here” The words shot out of Masaki’s mouth from its own, his gaze now focused on Sho’s shiny leather shoes - even the shoelaces were perfectly coordinated to the rest of the outfit.
Sho raised his face from the sight at the sea back up to the young man and smiled once again, biting his bottom lip while he approached Masaki.
“You want to know why I’m here?”
Masaki nodded.
“Lost my company. My work. My friends. And all I feel now is emptiness. I was surrounded by people all the time, almost 24 hours a day… but it’s different now. And I can’t handle it anymore.” Normally people would have encouraged him, telling him how everything will be okay in the future and that he just had to stand up and start all over again, but Masaki could understand how Sho felt. At a certain point he finished off with his life, nobody and nothing could keep him from making this one last decision. Well, he wasn’t bothered by being saved from somebody, because there was nobody that cared about him anyways.
“What about you? You aren’t looking that bad yourself for just ending your life here.” Masaki’s eyes quickly widened - seems like his little inspection was a bit conspicuous, but somehow he couldn’t stop staring at Sho.
“I’m just a failure at life” he said shortly, trying to hide his embarrassment and the flushed cheeks. Masaki had to grin a bit despicable, when he thought about the way he chose to live and how he decided it to end; he was clearly disappointed in himself.
“You’re cute” Sho’s deep voice made him look up quickly. Only a few centimetres were separating his face from the stranger’s, a sudden warm feeling spreading around his right hand. When he lowered his head to look down, the young man found Sho’s hand, tightly clenching his own. His heart raced faster, his cheeks flushed in an even deeper red shade and his knees started to wobble underneath him at the touch - when was the last time he held hands with someone?
If only we had met earlier. Maybe… maybe it wouldn’t be like this right now.
“Wanna jump together?” Somehow Masaki felt weirdly safe and encouraged by Sho’s words, the grip of his hand and the deep brown eyes that were looking at him, filled with warmth - he felt like he was in the middle of a movie, just that this one won’t have a happy end.
Masaki exhaled deeply before he nodded, a small but happy smile showing on his face.
“On the count of three then” One last time Sho squeezed the hand of the taller man before he turned his face away from Masaki, focusing on the sight right in front of him. Both of them enjoyed the last breeze that was hitting their faces, eyes were closed, their hair against the wind the only thing that was moving right now.
The two of them took another step forward, their hands still linked to each other before Sho’s lips parted.
