Oh wow. Poor Bobby. But just the image of his house and his yard full of cars really visually states all that you're saying here. I had never thought about the progression of his yard, especially moving from salvage to junk, but now I'm always going to see it.

Wow! I'm really glad that my interpretation makes sense. It was semi sociological commentary, partly English crit, so... :D

there is one scene where Bobby has employees. He's talking on the phone to the boys while a couple of guys do something in the background. And at least some of the cars are stacked nicely...

but I do agree that putting Bobby in the midst of salvage is a great metaphor for his position on the show.

I definitely missed that, with the employees. Plus, especially in smaller, rural places, there's temporary help that's offered on a favor-basis; I'm guessing they were probably helping Bobby with something in exchange for something he gave them. It happens all the time here between farms and service places, things like that.

About the cars: Bobby could have something like a forklift/skidsteer. My Dad piles bales something like 15 feet high using one, all by himself. Those things weight about as much as a stripped car.

Anyway, thanks! I'm glad I made a good comparison.

Man, most awesome bale spear ever, or most awesome bale spear ever? We haven't used round bales in forever; sumbitches to feed, let me tell you what. Especially when the grass gets cut when it's way too long and doesn't dry, augh. We do these massive 3.5x7 foot square bales, takes like three damn people to roll them around by hand ( ... )
